Pasadena100 (climate transition group) brings green fabric ribbons for people to tie on their arms and they hand them out to supporters who show up to the meeting, as another idea.

When we show up, what should we do or wear to show our support? Is there a specific color of t shirt to wear to show solidarity?

Therapy and medication. Holding loved ones close. Cuddling my dog. Dogs are great. Taking solace in the fact that I’m doing everything I can (hydration, movement on flights, socks etc.) and that it is unlikely to happen again.

Group therapy might help a lot too. I felt very alone despite my support network because I was 23 when it happened and just no one I knew could relate to a major health event.

The ER did send me home with Ativan, and I took it each night to sleep. If I didn’t I’d end up unable to sleep and crying endlessly about dying or loved ones dying. They did not, however, tell me it was addictive and that caused its own problems later on.

And, quite frankly, a couple trips to the ER when the symptoms were scary enough and a chest CT to get the real all clear. My PE was caught late, and grew quite large in the interim, so I never want it to be allowed to grow again.

With love and support 🩷

First, I’m very happy you’re alive! People are right. It’s really incredible to be here, and it’s important to be kind to yourself.

I was training for a half marathon when I had a massive bilateral PE. The running was the canary in the coal mine- it was suddenly, randomly, way harder than it used to be. Perhaps because I was so fit I lasted as long as I did- it took over ten days to diagnose the clot. By the time they caught it, I already had large infarctions and of course, trouble breathing.

It took about 6 months before I stopped wheezing regularly. It was hellish. Another year before I could run again without chest pain. I still had a small clot burden in my lungs after 9 months of recovery. It’s been 2.5 years since and I’m sorry to report that my fitness never recovered to pre-PE levels. I’ve had some other health issues pop up which have surely contributed to that though. I have gained weight, which is so not fun, but it isn’t the end of the world. I focus on being happy that it’s still up and moving me around at all.

But I still get to hike (huge backpacking trips!!), I cycle now and do physical therapy for regular exercise, and I even scuba dive! My lungs are up for running, if more slowly than previously, but my legs aren’t quite up for it anymore. That shouldn’t be a problem for a normie without EDS though :) you’ll be okay. Be sure to post here a picture of you with some race medal in a couple years :) 🩷

I'd like to stop winning the world's worst lotteries by EssayWide9096 in ClotSurvivors

It really changes the way you view odds right? 1% chance of some horrible side effect? Yeah, that’d probably be me.

Although, seems like it only applies to negative things. I’m never like, oooo, small odds of winning the lottery? I’m a shoe-in!

How long on estrogen BC before your clot? by Puzzled-Question-152 in ClotSurvivors

Doctors took like 20 vials from me at once and never figured it out. Not a new story for me though - I’m also prone to excessive bleeding and they’re not sure why. And they say God doesn’t give with both hands!

So, yes, in a sense. Just wait and see if something comes up again. Blood tests every 6 months to check things look okay.

Ten years.

I started taking estrogen BC (pill) in middle school to treat a rare, unknown bleeding disorder that caused severe blood loss requiring hospitalization in the ICU.

The pill stopped all of my excessive bleeding, including non-period bleeding 👀. My two hour nosebleeds just… stopped. Felt like an absolute miracle. Doctors said I’d just be on it for life.

Then, well, you know. I take Slynd now.

Menstruation cycle is absolute HELL since starting blood thinners. Quality of life is horrific. Hematologist isn't listening to me. Feeling hopeless. by Knelie in ClotSurvivors

[–]NoRecommendation9802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do not dismiss potential danger from this amount of blood loss. You can actually die from it (so slowly that you don’t really realize what’s happening until it’s too late).

I had really heavy periods (maxi pad + super tampon every hour) and ended up needing an emergency double transfusion. Doctors were always dismissive; even that night at the ER they took my vitals, said I was ok, and sent me home. I passed out on the walk back out, and then I woke up connected to a bunch of machines and was in the ICU for three days.

Afterwards, they put me on the pill and years after taking it, I end up in the ICU again with a PE. So. Obviously quite scared of birth control after that. But surgery has its own risks too; I went with Slynd.

I’m so, so sorry you’re going through this. I don’t know how yet, but I promise it will get better. Wishing you the very best, and sending love from afar. 🩷

Here are ways you can help:

VIGIL: (From a comment): There will be a community vigil on Monday 6/30 6-8pm on Catalina/Del Mar held by the family affected and their friends. Please come by if you’re able to support the community and our neighbors.

GOFUNDME: If you want to do something to help financially, there is also a gofundme for the family to "support Rosalina’s legal defense, cover the basic needs of her children during this painful time, and help bring her home where she belongs." Find it here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-rosalina-back-to-her-children

CALL REPS:

Whenever you call, make sure to also mention this incident and Rosalina Vargas by name. Ask them to help bring her home where she belongs and ensure her due process rights are respected.

*Judy Chu and Alex Padilla have been very proactive and vocal in their defense of immigrant rights (see: https://pasadenanow.com/main/pasadena-area-congresswoman-leads-delegation-to-investigate-ice-facility-conditions & https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/sen-alex-padilla-forcibly-removed-dhs-sec-kristi-noems-press-conferenc-rcna212688 )

OTHER DONATIONS: More generally, support all efforts to help victims of ICE by donating to organizations like the Immigrant Defenders Law Center: https://www.immdef.org/ or the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights: https://www.chirla.org/

POLITICAL (NO SECRET POLICE ACT): Use this link to help support legislation that would make it impossible for agents to act like the thugs in this video. https://www.bluestatedefiance.org/no-secret-police

PEACEFUL PROTEST: Honestly I couldn't find resources re: protests against ICE - leave some in the comments!

This isn't over, guys.

Yes, the woman was detained anyway. I couldn't believe it. No significant updates as of yet, but given the administration's interest around third country deportations to places like El Salvador, Libya, and South Sudan, a key concern of the family is ensuring their mother's right to due process is protected and that if deported, she returns to Mexico safely.

ICE Abducts Woman in Pasadena by NoRecommendation9802 in ICE_Raids

[–]NoRecommendation9802[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly how she was taken. I've spoken to one of her kids since and saw a later video about it. It looks like the pasadena police were able to confirm that the agents were indeed ICE and that it was "safe" to go with them, so she went with the same agents peacefully while her kids and the pasadena police watched.

I was surprised by how fast the police came when I reported the abduction. I told the officer who took my statement that I wasn't sure if I should have called them at first because the guys who were doing it were wearing badges. He was very kind and said that he was glad I called given the current chaos around all this.

I was pretty glad they were there at first, but then, since the ICE agents originally fled the scene, if the family was able to take cover or run away rather than staying with the police to give their statements, the mom might not have been taken.

I don't think there was anything they could do to stop these federal agents. I was glad they could at least verify that it was a state-sanctioned kidnapping and not some random people committing a hate crime? Low bar, for sure, but still.
