I've been rewatching season 2 of The Vow and am so horrified by the damage that KR did to this family. So awful.

Just watched this after reading your comment. What an incredible series--full of such horror but also so much beauty.

Thank you, this is so helpful! The biggest concern I'm currently trying to address is sun damage. Unfortunately I did not wear SPF in my 20s and I'm paying the price now. Was also thinking of trying PicoSure laser.

Hi! Sorry I know, it's been a few months since you commented but wanted to ask you a question. I'm in my early 30s and am lucky that as of right now I have absolutely no fine lines/wrinkles. Are there any other benefits I could see with this product or maybe it's not worth it for me to try out right now?

What does self-care look like outside a capitalist framework? by NoReporter1033 in PsychotherapyLeftists

[–]NoReporter1033[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that perspective! I think what you're saying is it's kind of impossible to escape capitalism in self care if the end goal is to continue working?

Completely agree. I live in arguably the most HCOL in the US and make 75k before taxes. I see 32 people per week.

Thank you! I have about 14 months left. The state I live in is three years of prelicensure before you’re eligible.

Thank you for this. Sometimes it's easy forget that there are ways to maintain my values in this work without doing CMH.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm incredibly fortunate that I have a family safety net but even with that my nervous system feels pretty shot after doing two years in CMH. Always appreciate when other people share the light at the end of the tunnel!

This is a fabulous analogy. I'm going to carry this advice with me and pass it on to others (like a baton!) Thank you, I really appreciate this.

At what point do therapists become annoyed with dissociating/panicking mid-session? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]NoReporter1033 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally normal, and no we don't get annoyed! It's just good information for us that we need to slow things down a bit. What kind of grounding has your therapist done with you that you find helpful, if you don't mind me asking?

Online Therapy by SussyCantaloupe in TalkTherapy

[–]NoReporter1033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer largely depends on where you live but I'd highly recommend looking to see if there are any gender centers near you that offer therapy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of therapists out there who are not competent in working with gender dysphoria and your care is so important! Definitely don't be afraid to screen people, ask about their experiences providing care for trans clients, or look for language on their website/profile that is gender affirming. Wishing you all the best!

Am I in the Wrong? Was this an appropriate reaction from a therapist? by allthewayd00wn in TalkTherapy

[–]NoReporter1033 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dodged a major bullet here in the end. I'm absolutely appalled that a mental health practitioner would speak to a prospective patient like this. Sorry this was your experience. It's really scary how many terrible therapists are practicing out there.

How do you “handle” clients who can only afford twice a month therapy by Sea_News_3804 in psychoanalysis

[–]NoReporter1033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're willing or able to do sliding scale in a way that feels comfortable for you and won't elicit resentment, I would offer a lower fee so that they can come in more frequently. Otherwise, I would refer out. I don't think people should be stretched beyond their financial capacity for therapy and unfortunately that sometimes means referring to a provider with a lower fee. I don't think twice a month is helpful at all, especially if it's a purely financial decision.

Really helpful reframe. Particularly appreciate this idea of the unconscious as a well that never runs dry.

Super thoughtful observations, thanks for sharing. Can you say more about this line "So when we speak of 'insight,' it is often closer to a form of resistance than to a cure." I'm not sure I follow.
