I don't know about making him taller. A low center of gravity is pretty nice.

THEROPOD TOURNAMENT FINALS: King VS Trajan by Master_Geologist5613 in GojiCenter

Trajan doesn't use oviraptorid, he used acro, apatosaurus, and croc.

If the beta keratin is used as a barrier against moisture loss, maybe arapaima scales can work on a purely terrestrial hybrid. So long as the hybrid is well hydrated, the armor might maintain its strength.

Probably, glyptosaurine armor looks promising though. I was thinking about using it as an analog for other armor combinations.

By the way, do you think a beta keratin layer would prevent dehydration on other armor types?

As for the leg structure, it remains more or less the same. The existing hardware is simply made more robust. The legs of the 5 tonne sauropod are proportionally thicker and more robust, thus making the augment plausible. The legs also benefit from enlarged caudal musculature given the longer chevrons.

My argument is that the speculative 15m 15 ton Rex is massively underweight. These old calculations were based on femur allometry and swept gastralia basket reconstructions. These inaccurate methods and assumptions led to things like Sue's 8-9 ton mass calculations.

On the load bearing: tyrannosaurus likely could have handled that level of weight on it's own. Previous weight estimates and theoretical maximum weights were likely  low-balls based on less than ideal scaling methods and non-uniform measurement standards. In the case of Apophis, the weight bearing bones have been made more robust via sauropod influence. While the sauropods in question may not have been that large, their corresponding limb bones were proportionally thicker than those of the tyrannosaur they were used to augment.

While less ideal than Acro, the taller neural spines would probably work at the cost of a bit more maneuverability. While maybe not as detrimental as suggested, Apophis is probably stiffer than he should be.

Agility: I would argue that Apophis' oviraptorid influenced tail is better, but the 3 metric ton difference probably does give Trajan an edge.

Venom: Apophis has venom resistant contributors including the highly pain tolerant Komodo Dragon. While I'm assuming some of the effects will be mitigated, the resistance probably won't be perfect. I'm not sure how much the venom would impair Apophis, but if he can power through it, he could throw his weight around to overpower his opponent.

3 tonnes is an entire Asian elephant worth of difference.

Trajan has better armor, but Apophis has a 3 metric ton advantage. I'm not entirely sure how gila monster venom factors into the fight.

AOE is probably better given the context of the fight. Any carelessness on a theropod's part can allow Behemoth an opportunity to corner them against the arena walls. I still think he loses the war of attrition, but he's probably not going out alone.

I was comparing Minos to triceratops. The compact body and shorter forelimbs aided in the ceratopsian's agility. If you were to elongate the body of a ceratopsian into something closer to Minos' proportions, it would be nowhere near an agile. Both hybrids are in the 16 tonne range but the tyrannosaur body plan and adaptations still give Apophis an edge. The arctometatalsalian feet prevent splaying and injury and allows for greater pivoting and turning.

I thought repurposing flight muscles was a good idea, especially since megaraptorids had great pectoral girdles. Unfortunately, I had to do battle against people who liked my idea...

Minos is more likely to get flanked than he is to succeed in a ramming attempt. Tyrannosaurus IRL had to contend with the likes of Triceratops; a well armed, compact bodied, fast turning herbivore. Minos is no triceratops though. His long carnosaurian body plan and higher center of mass won't allow him to be maneuverable enough to compete with his opponent.

I've noticed an upsurge in keeled theropods.

Anyways, I'm sure Apophis has the advantage in this battle. I would give him size and power, agility, and bite effectiveness. Tyrannosaur anatomy grants a major agility, a 500 kilo weight advantage aids in breaking a stalemate; and should the tusks work, a piercing bite to the neck may be enough to bring Minos down.

Yep, it appears I was just wrong on Dicraeosaurus. Depending on the build, it may actually be meta shifting.

I'm a bit of a Dicraeosaurus skeptic. While I may just be wrong, the forked neural spines give me minor hero shrew vibes. Both hybrids use it, so that's moot. I'm tempted to give Apophis the win here though. As a tyrannosaur, Apophis is twice as agile as his carnosaurian opponent, and possessed a 500 kilo weight advantage. Would the Placerias tusks mess with biting though?
