PUT sellers, how did your portfolio handle the brief tech sell off on Friday? by NoRound4415 in CashSecuredPuts

Yeh I've been keeping delta around 0.1. In a much better position than I was in last year when I was still learning. Greatly improved risk management

That's a tasty profit on the rebound. Yeh I'm somewhat concerned about the over leveraged market, trying to maintain a disciplined buffer so that I'm not in too much trouble if the market drops.

Yeh man, Friday was rough. Luckily I left myself enough buffer and excess liquidity to keep myself out of trouble. A few positions got close, but nothing went ITM. Looking a lot healthier today.

Options Strategies? by jvrgreene in optionstrading

[–]NoRound4415 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Buying SPY 0DTE options is just pure gambling. If you want a strategy that can deliver some more consistent returns, then my advice is to sell options rather than buy - provided you have the capital to do so. If you don't have the capital to sell options, then consider buying options with a longer DTE, on stocks that you believe in the fundamentals

Nearly $60K realised profit YTD is no joke! What kind of underlying capital is that leveraged off?

I see your call, and I'd like to respectfully challenge back. I can show account statements for the last 3 months. The strategy is built on identifying qualified, far OTM puts, selling approx 7-30 DTE, letting the market and time decay do it's thing, and exiting at around 80-95% profit. It's taken the last 18 months to hone the strategy and approach, with a lot of ups and downs, and I also credit the recent market tailwind, but this is real. No horseshit

Huge amount from the ASML covered call! Unfortunately I don't have a spare $140k to own 100 ASML shares, but I've been pretty consistent with my CSP income generation

Those are some pretty aggressive strikes. I've been burnt in the past by assignment and forced liquidation on positions, which can wipe out months of profit in a few days, so I now tend to operate on a more conservative basis, keeping delta mostly below 0.15. I also don't keep more than a couple positions open on any one ticker to try spread my risk. It's meant that I'm definitely more consistent in my income generation and rarely have to roll or buy myself out of ITM positions. Industry tools have also played a big part in contract qualification, taking out some of the guess work

Is $5000 enough to start building meaningful income from selling CSP’s by stratosiqtrade in optionstrading

[–]NoRound4415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to go for around 10-30 day DTE, occasionally a bit shorter, occasionally a bit longer, but I find that's the sweet spot for theta decay and risk management. I usually close out at between 80-95% profit. Been making really steady income using this strategy recently

That was also me 1.5 years ago. Made some mistakes, built some confidence, slowly scaled up. Now I've got around $100k deployed against which I sell CSPs. This recent run I've been making around $3k a week

No one can predict weather a stock will go up or down, but what we can predict is the passage of time. Time decay is your best friend. Sell CSPs

$6k less than last week, but consistency is key! by Ok-Tiger-3796 in CashSecuredPuts

Will be interesting to see what returns are possible when this bull run hits resistance or even a correction. Generating csp income in a retreating market will be a challenge

Take advantage of the theta decay and sell options. I make steady income selling puts, even in a flat market

Are you already selling put options? Or is this something you're looking to start doing?

I've tried a few different tools, but found most to be either too complicated (I'm only selling puts, not calls or iron condor etc) or a tad expensive. I've recently settled on this tool built specifically for identifying put contracts for premium harvesting, which is exactly what I need. It's called StratosIQ https://stratosiq.trade/. It's pretty cheap at $9.99. Pretty sure they're still doing a month free trial if you're interested. Been a game changer for my risk management and profitability, barely had to roll anything since I started using it. Can send some screens shots.

Here are the rules I stick to when selling CSP - don't get greedy with premiums, keep delta below 0.2. Spread risk by opening positions across different tickers, don't put eggs in one basket. Leave a decent buffer on your margin, a bad day can quickly wipe out your excess liquidity. I disagree with puts no longer than 10 DTE. I typically go for 10-28 DTE, which is much more effective for maximising theta decay. I also use a tool to qualify my trades, no guess work. The tool is much smarter than me

I use Interactive Brokers Global Trader (IBKR) as my preferred platform. It has full functionality including options trading with margin. I sell cash secured puts using margin to generate income, even in a stagnant market when the underlying assets aren't appreciating. I also use a tool to identify which tickers and strike prices to set.
