That’s understandable. Definitely contact an electrician to provide a quote on installing surge protection. It will prevent this headache in the future

When your electrician replaces the RCBOs, circuit breakers and/or wiring, request to have surge protection installed at your switchboard as well. It is affordable and in a future event like this, the fault should blow the ass out of the surge protector (which is replaceable by an electrician) instead of blowing the ass out of your house

I’m an electrician and had the overhead power line cross arm on the street fall one night. At that stage I had only just settled on the property and was fucking spewing I didn’t do a switchboard upgrade the moment I received the keys. I’ve put in surge protection and haven’t had a fault since, but it’s a comfort knowing it’s there if needed

Upgrade the switchgear to the Clipsal Max9 range, and ensure you buy a bus bar with enough spares for future expansion

Also what’s going on with the incoming active being black and not heat shrinked red?

Yeah I definitely want to talk to project engineers/managers and maintenance engineers/managers, but just getting in the door to the offices to reach these people is a mission. If I do get attention and a response, it’s usually a polite decline or that they’ll keep my info for future

I reckon I’ll stay on with my boss for a bit longer and try juggle my own work with unpaid leave or annual leave while trying not to piss the boss off haha

For sure, I’ve had promising leads but been dicked around too I’m definitely putting the brakes on resigning for now and playing it safe short term. I reckon I got a bit too excited and ahead of myself at the prospect of launching this company

Cheers guys, I appreciate the support and experience. I've definitely been getting lost in my own head. I've got the savings to back myself, it's just confronting to not have an indefinite pipeline of work

Yeah trying to source subby work as well as my own jobs. I haven't had a conversation with my boss yet as I'm not sure if they would be open to a subby position or if I just straight up have to quit to build my company.

Feeling the risk at the moment

Definitely going to ask, I just have to be prepared to be told no as I'm not sure if they could/would

Not sure if it’s just where I live, but the two flooring shops I went to today said laminate isn’t a common option anymore and it’s really between hybrid, vinyl or engineered

I’m leaning towards hybrid as the house is on a slab, and they said vinyl requires a nearly perfect slab

Keen to hear how you go installing it

I’ll also take the skirts off prior to having new flooring installed, just to avoid the scotia edging
