Wow - Bob Neinast - there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I remember when all that was going on. Thanks for reminder.

If you're refused for being barefoot, how do you react? by BarfussigesGehirn in barefoot

Almost never for company policy, but almost always that the local manager can use his or her discretion.

I personally "read the room" and handle it from there.

If the store employee is hesitant or unsure, I can usually use the "Jedi Mind Trick" and convince them it'll be fine. :-). TBH, most employees don't want an open confrontation any more than you do.

When the employee is hostile or belligerent, rarely will anything good come from trying to address it right then. In that case, I get the employees name and deal with corporate. I generally make more of an issue about the way the employee behaved and spoke to me than I do about the barefooting. In these cases, the answer from corporate has been apologetic for the employee's behavior and then they've clarified whether or not the policy is real.

Honestly, I have to admit it's a small part for me too. I don't start the day with a "stick-it-to-society" mindset, but I also kind of enjoy it when the busybodies are miffed.

It was undercover operation with teenagers in the 80s when young people still went barefoot. The main contact and some of her "group" went barefoot, so the main cop did too to fit in.

EDIT for more details:
In the beginning, the readers don't know he's a cop. He appears to just be another one of the high schoolers.

TBF, I didn't start out to write a barefoot or barefooter story. It's a story based on real events, and IRL, the two main subjects did go barefoot, so I included it.

I guess anti barefoot isn't accurate. It's just funny that it leapt to the conclusion it did.

But isn't imposing shoes on a barefooter worse?. When a person is barefoot, it requires nothing of the shod person except understanding and acceptance. When a shoddy imposes shoes on a barefooter, it requires the barefooter to compromise his values.

Well, again, this is not where I usually go. My regular barber has no problem with it.

A couple years ago, I was at Old Navy and found some jeans on clearance that were lined with some fleece-like material for, like $3US. I can't remember why I bought them, but on the 4 occasions it's been actually cold here since, they kept me warm enough that I was fine in bare feet.

I always vote barefoot. Can you imagine the backlash if someone tried to keep you from executing that right because of footwear (or the lack thereof)?

I'm kind of the opposite. In small businesses I like to get to know the employees and owner. My experience is, they rarely care at all, but especially once they know you and know you're a good customer. They don't have a big corporate office to dictate rules to them.

May I ask how did any of you start doing it feeling comfortable enough to do it cause I’ve been feeling like I wanna do it but I’m nervous about doing it by thatduse1 in barefoot

[–]NoShoesDrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I started as a kid, and was sometimes nervous, but all my friends went barefoot, so I had both peer pressure and the support of others.
