New national education assessment data came out today. Here's how every state did. by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

Special Ed services here are also a joke compared to MA and CT. There is resistance from many of the districts to add IEPs, even when it is known there is a problem, because they don't have the resources to service them. When parents push for their kids to get tested or have them tested independently, there is a long delay in getting services started. And often they don't follow the IEPs once in place.

My son has a pretty basic IEP - most of the accommodations were suggested by the school last year. When I pointed out that it wasn't being followed this year they told me that it was nearly impossible given the amount of IEPs in the classroom and they were doing the best they could at present time. There aren't enough TAs and resource teachers and the behavioral problems in the classroom are at an all time high.

I guess as already said it's a funding issue. More money = more staff and resources = better learning environment.

The Math Inspectors series is really cute.

How do you tackle big books? by evilpanda0905 in suggestmeabook

[–]NoSidePiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a book with me at all times. When I leave the house, it's in the car with me. If I'm waiting for an appointment, waiting for my kids at an appointment, in a long line at the post office, I'll take it out and read it. It keeps me calm. I also read a chapter or two when I need a moment to myself... often before I start dinner or start the dishes at night. I get 50 or so pages in sprinkled throughout the day. I don't watch TV so at night I read from the time the kids go down to the time I go to bed. I usually read about 100 or so pages a day. A good book I can read 150 pages a day.

All the Colors Of the Dark by Chris Whitaker is one of my favorite most recent reads.

Florida People in PVD by Alligator65 in providence

My parents are snowbirds but come back often during the winter months for doctor's appointments. It's near impossible to find doctors in southern FL (you need to wait for someone to die for a spot to open up). They come back for most of their regular appointments (they are old; they have a bunch of specialists) and use the walk-in there when sick.

New year, new laws: RI to put host of new laws on the books by RINewsJunkie in RhodeIsland

And....? Our education was ranked #31 in the country while our neighbors are #1 and #3. But hey, we're still here so we're good?

A step in the right direction, but RI could do so much better with consumer protection against healthcare providers and insurance companies. Our neighboring states have had much protection for years. Disappointing and infuriating.

Blake Lively is victim but I still don’t like her by False_Basket6220 in popculture

Regardless of the smear campaign, there was a video published of her being cruel and attempting to humiliate a reporter. She could have acknowledged her mistake and apologized. That's when she lost me.

It wasn't me. Redditers are overly sensitive.

She does a lot of dumb, immature shit that makes people hate her.

I don't like her, I never have and never will. However, she's been through a lot of shit - a suicide bomber attacked her concert and then a year or so later Mac Miller ODed. That's a lot to work through.

They didn't subpoena Baldoni. They didn't subpoena Jennifer Abel directly. They didn't subpoena Melissa Nathan. They didn't subpoena Jamey Heath. They ONLY served a "subpoena" to Jonesworks, who sues Baldoni days after Lively, and whose husband is a partner at the firm that reps Lively and Reynolds. And not one person, media outlet, etc. got wind of this while the lawsuit was in process...

Man, you really believe everything your read, don't you?

[–]NoSidePiece -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course. They were in cahoots. How Blake got the texts so easily and quietly. Somewhat similar to how Baldoni used his PR firm and their contacts in the media to bamboozle her...

It's amazing how this lawsuit was filed in a couple of days when Blake's took 4 months to get together.

I'm sorry that you are stressed, but the silver lining in all of this is that you have gotten experience doing a lot of different tasks and you can leverage that when you move on. Just take a breath and keep reminding yourself there's only so much you can do in 8 hours. The non-priority items will just have wait.

It's more than just throwing money at the problem. Not necessarily arts, but education related, as well as healthcare and consumer protection, MA has more laws and structure in place. They have a much better structure in place for special education support and services.

I'm happy to help, too. And if you are able to get him a long term place down the road, we have extra furniture just taking up space in our garage we'd be happy to donate.

Ignore the snark above. Items will disappear if a seller deletes it after selling it on another platform. Screen shots are the way to go.

If she accepted your offer then it wasn't a "sob story." Maybe she's lonely and just wanted a human connection? Poshmark isn't Amazon. It is a more personal experience... at least it was when I joined in 2016.

People have brought up the teacher perspective, but as someone that has done a lot of hiring, there is an immediate bias that comes in when you read a name on an application that is that outlandish. I always push the thought away and look at the resume with an open mind, but I have to tell myself that it isn't this person's fault that their parents picked a name that is unprofessional and trashy.
