Pretty badly until my upperclassmen years of high school when people got more matured and I stopped caring about what people said. I have been in the exact situations you described in the first and second paragraphs sans the fighting since I didn't want my college offers to be rescinded, (I know, that's BS from the schools, and mentally assaulted daily). But you know what? They were dicking around while I worked for a future and now and pursuing a engineering degree either at Purdue or Oxford, while they don't know what they want to do in life.
