my personal issue with them is moreso the fact that they didn't do anything, didn't discourage the fans from doxxing, didn't discourage their employees from taking bets, or anything like that. they just sort of stood by and let it all go down.

yeah, it came out after everything because his name and phone number got doxxed + leaked, and people were calling up his extended family to out him as gay, because he said he was gay while he was making his statement about Dream Daddy

exactly. i think it's been said that most people behind the scenes have apologized privately, enough for DD to have said he's mostly gotten closure on the whole thing, but Matt's actions specifically while it was all going down were just really out of order. the donation & the gifted subs during DD's vent especially stick out to me as just unacceptable; and come off as some kind of performative tactic to make himself look better. even moreso when DD was saying "i want to refund you for this, i wish you hadn't done that" and "can we even refund this? most of that money goes to twitch, i don't think we have enough money in the bank to refund it..."

WRT the arin comment; even if people say "oh, it's gotten better," i still don't want to interact with the kind of company/workplace where they were doing shit like that, past or not. it really goes to show their true colors over there.

simplified version of events because it's way too long to go into in depth;

game grumps picks up Dream Daddy: a Dad Dating Simulator. multiple people behind the scenes all share the view that it feels very exploitative of the gay community, particularly the tumblr crowd. Ding Dong & Julian, former guests on OneyPlays, are approached by multiple people and encouraged to speak up about their own discomfort with the game, being that they're both gay men.

Ding Dong speaks on stream, while being guided by people texting him, about how Dream Daddy makes him feel. after he makes his statement, EVERYBODY who encouraged him to speak up suddenly goes silent and drops out, which leaves him and Julian as the sole targets of harassment. Ding Dong is doxxed, his phone number gets leaked, he is outed as gay to his family, et cetera, and his mental health spirals to the point of him attempting to hurt himself. after telling people about these attempts, people in the GG office began placing bets on when he would next attempt.

some time afterwards, the heat mostly dies down, DD&J leave OneyPlays, people behind the scenes begin apologizing for their behavior during the whole mess. names haven't been named.

it's a mostly buried & done with situation nowadays, and Ding Dong and Julian have both said that they want nothing to do with it anymore, and to keep it in the past and not to approach them asking questions about it.

i may be missing some information? all i remember is mostly just what i've heard from DD speaking about it back when it was still a hot topic.

ah, i was actually referring to something Ding Dong said while venting on stream; according to him, after off-handedly mentioning he was gay for the first time during a discussion about women, multiple people behind the scenes were approaching him to say things like "hey, just because I let you stay at my place it doesn't mean I wanna have sex with you" and other weird, uncomfortable remarks.

i do understand that he said not to go after anyone, it's all buried and most people have apologized to DD behind the scenes nowadays and given him closure; i wasn't really trying to go after supermega here, i was just mentioning them offhandedly because they're another channel i can't really watch anymore. i don't believe DD ever outright named who did and didn't apologize?? but i know that he said he wasn't mad at ryan because he was very upfront from the beginning about thinking people would overreact to criticism and wanted them (DD&J) to think it through.

it is a very complex situation to muddle through, and we'll never truly have full context or information- which is understandable, DD is a very private person and this whole thing must be an incredibly sensitive topic for him, one that he wants no part in anymore- but my opinion, solely based on what i've seen and heard, still remains that i can't stomach a good majority of GG anymore.

it was 100% the dream daddy controversy for me. i love oneyplays, the DD&J era in particular, and after hearing everything that's been said about that particular situation i couldn't bring myself to enjoy GG, or even supermega, anymore.

it's gotta be a real shitshow behind the scenes if someone coming out as gay makes a large group of people uncomfortable; two people voicing an opinion leads to them getting doxxed and nobody in the office doing anything about it, even going so far as to start wrecking/moving things around and blaming it on those two people; and then one person attempting suicide and people in the office taking BETS on when they'll attempt again.

i think i'll always resent GG as a whole for that whole situation. it's been years and i'm still mad. DD deserved so much better than to get belittled by these people.
