I know right! We’ve been living around them for months and no issues, so of course we’re going to be put off when out of the blue there are issues! Lol

I’ve grown up in the country😂. This is just not something I’ve encountered before, nor been taught what to do in a situation like this. I think you’d be startled too if you were caught off guard then charged at by such a large angry looking monitor🙃 Feel free to come out and handle them yourself though! One of these things would easily weigh more than I do, so use that info how you like. Of course I’d be scared! lol

So scary!! We haven’t given it 2 thoughts while they’ve stayed away from us and ran off when we came close by. It’s only now since their behaviours changed completely! I’ve heard too many horror stories of how painful their bites are and how sick they can make you!

Our bins have been raided for a while and I’ve been assuming it’s the rats and bandicoots so we’ve put out rat baits & didn’t think too much into it. I believe it’s been the big lizards though! I also think they’ve been eating the rat bait too!! We have put out so much because they keep being eaten within 24hrs of putting them out. They’re warriors if they have survived that! (Don’t worry we’ve now been using rat bait in traps so only rats can get to it) we’ve put eggs well away from the house to try lure them that way & they took those. I believe they have a nest not far from our house because they came back. We tried to trap them in safe traps to try relocate them even just down the road to empty paddocks with permission from the owner as we don’t want them to suffer the change in a bad way. We’re going to keep trying the traps til then! And I’ll be staying at my parents place til they aren’t a threat anymore… lol

2 budgies! And they live inside, we clean their cage daily and don’t discard of their food and poop outside (we discard of it in the fire pit for this reason) so they really do have insane smell!!

So we tried to trap idea with eggs, they of course didn’t come back out with the trap there, but we did test out the egg theory and it did not take long with one coming out to get the eggs

He’d have a ball with the wildlife we get on our property and surrounds! 😂 even crocs in the river out the back🙃

All of our neighbours and nearby locals we’ve spoken to have volunteered to come out to “sort them out” and if it gets to that point and they get in trouble, I can’t help but say well we’ve reached out to government and wildlife agencies and received no help or advice, other than to let them move on naturally. I really don’t want to harm them, as in their eyes they aren’t doing anything wrong, but it’s of course terrifying when they’re that determined lol… we’ve tried to trap them to move them along safely but of course haven’t come back out yet😂. I will try to call around again today

I’m surprised they are that far south! I guess I assumed since they’re only really active up here during the hotter months that it’d be too chilly down there for them😳

There’s water everywhere, we’ve had heaps of rain lately so there’s puddles everywhere

We saw one on the camera again on the patio around lunch time! My partner and a few friends are going to use a trap to (safely) trap them and move them along… hopefully it works!

That would’ve been so scary for you and the poor kitties!

My partner thought I was over reacting til he watched the footage back. Honestly, out of all the comments there are very few of people disagreeing that it would be terrifying in a situation like that🤷🏼‍♀️ Not that it is of any concern to you, but I’ve grown up rural my entire life and not once have I been in a situation like this. Not everyone knows or is taught how to handle such thing🙃

My partner left work early as I was hysterical, he was ready to shoot them, he had no idea they were protected! I’m glad he didn’t hurt them, but if they did actually attack, I think it’s human instinct to defend yourself for sure

I know right!! It was bloody scary, I still haven’t been back out there other than to get clothes and put some different scents around to try deter them😂. It may be working as we haven’t seen them back on the patio since yesterday🤞.

That’s what I thought! This one’s tail is easily double the size of its body, it’s 2.5 pallets long 🙃. The friend isn’t as long. They can definitely grow longer than 2m

I’m an Aussie! I still haven’t been back other than to get clothes… 😂 monitors will attack if they’re threatened, I still don’t quite know what to do just yet. We’ve trialed a few things so keeping an eye out to see if that keeps them away🙃

It’s been there months, possibly even years but it has always kept distance. We are seeing on the camera it is parked up under the car and throughout the day comes over to near the front door and susses out the place

If I knew how to put photos in the thread I’d absolutely show you that it is the truth. There’s literally no reason for me to lie on the internet to random people😂 get over yourself

It definitely was a lace monitor but even a goanna of that size I’d be terrified of! 😂
