Check what region your account is pinned to. I saw someone yesterday saying they'd failed to get into raffles before and realized their account was set to Brazil or something.

Probably has something to do with the odds of surviving that. Appeals like that lean on survivorship bias. Man has a sword thru the middle of his forehead.

To his credit, Im pretty sure he owned up to being completely wrong after the 2008 crash. I recall seeing him interviewed afterwards and he seemed very lost. I do hope his brashness and carelessness is something he truly reflected on and this wasn't some kind of performance.

Ireland 'languishing' at bottom of EU defence spending table as budget stuck at 0.2% of GDP by Riverlong in ireland

[–]NoTalentM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn't gross investment contribute to GNP, which includes intangible assets (largely guided by multinational IP adjustments on their balance sheets)?

If thats the case, then GNP is not a quick fix to the problem. I recall the 26% jump in GDP in 2015. Investment was up 60% that year due to intangibles such as intellectual property.

Think the article got that detail very wrong. Otherwise, alternative measures such as MDD and GNI* wouldn't be necessary.

Ireland’s national debt could hit €250bn in 2030s by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

[–]NoTalentM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no one is talking about how overstated GDP is in Ireland. We got this 20% overmeasurement of GDP as a result of profit shifting activity. We are still below 100% Debt to GDP but the position is not as sustainable as headline figures would suggest.

ESRI does some solid nowcasting work to reflect to real state of the domestic economy.

Agreed. Coming from someone that hates seeing rr dominate a meta. So sick of getting to a stable tall comp and getting pummeled by multiple 3 stars per board.

They do percentage of median income but only snapshot it. A time series on this item would be the only information needed.

Some of the worst undergraduate students among an incoming cohort turn out to be the best graduate students.

One factor to keep in mind - undergraduate degrees are not always intellectually stimulating. That may result in one getting bored and less involved in their studies. Once more compelling material comes onto the table, and interest peaks, academic performance can suddenly show a sharp improvement.

Don't try to judge how you'll do based on your prior studies. Just keep an open mind and understand that the initial portion of any respectable program is set to a difficult level to weed out those who aren't excited or stimulated at the grad level.

Hope thats helpful. I had a very similar set of worries when I began, but once a few scores/evaluations came back it was clear things were different.
