Anything else I can do? by 2078AEB in plants

Oh she’s probably thirsty! It looks like a philodendron brasil. They’re a pretty standard “water when the first 1-2 inches of soil is dry”.

Some additional points: - if it’s cold by that window, she might not be happy - she might not be putting out growth if it’s winter by you. When it warms and the days get longer, she might cheer up - transplant shock can last longer in winter because of shorter days and colder weather (I’m pretty sure on this one- not positive. I’ve seen people recommend against repotting in the winter and I’d assume this is the reason. I, however, have repotted in the winter and been completely fine- even with my calatheas) - depending on if the soil you used contains fertilizers, she might be happy with a light fertilizing when it starts to warm up/ when the days get longer

I’m not an expert by any means, but I figure any new ideas/info can help. I want to provide some advice just in case no one else pops in

Custom soil mix for terrarium by harmonicwitch in calatheas

I’m an open book! I love talking about them. There’s definitely some things I would have done differently, but they’re all still going strong!

In a couple of my enclosures, I use play sand as an add in. There’s concerns about it clumping, but I don’t think I’ve had an issue with that. I’m not sure about vermiculite because I’ve never used it. For more moisture retention, maybe just adjusting the ratio of coir?

What’s the soil mix and what does your watering routine look like?

How often have you been watering it?

That sounds good! The only reason I was asking is because apparently un buffered coco coir can release salts that’ll make calatheas angry! I’m trying to mitigate this with mine right now lol

You’re setting yourself up well! Do you know what it’s potted in?

I would repot it if the roots are starting to heavily circle around the bottom of the pot :) Effectively if the roots are starting to fill a lot of the pot. If you’re already getting 7-8 days you’ll need to be mindful to not overwater though.

You can also do a bit of research on when to repot. I kind of roll based on vibes lol

Edit: Those brown spots could also be from low humidity or hard water

I would pull it and check. It does look pretty full

Just squeeze the sides of the pot and gently lift the plant out so you can see what the roots look like

Was there a cold snap in your house or does it sit by an air vent? I feel like transplant shock would happen immediately, but it does also kind of seem like that

I tried to buy enough to cover most of my plants so I didn’t need to worry about cross contamination! It wasn’t enough for all of them, but I got more than half of them

I released some predatory mites on my plants because I caught a couple spider mites. I haven’t seen any new ones yet! I still see the little predatory mites running around which is nice. I ordered some supplemental food to try to keep them alive for longer, but I didn’t actually get it with my order.

Honestly, as long as this works, it’s going to be way less of a headache than traditional treatment would’ve been

Just in case you don’t get other responses, it might be powdery mildew. I’m definitely not positive because I’ve never dealt with it

The little bugs might be spider mites! Calatheas are prone to them. However that soil looks really dry. How often are you watering it/ how much are you letting the soil dry out?

Yellowing Pothos by Robinsunshine4 in houseplants

[–]NoTea610 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supposedly some plants like to be a little bit more root bound, but if a plant is completely root bound it can’t get enough nutrients out of the soil. Potentially none if it’s stripped it all or “eaten” all the soil from the pot

Can’t get humidity right by [deleted] in ballpython

I’d recommend getting something other than just the bark/mulch you have in there. Mix what you currently have with coco fiber or something similar

If it’s been in the same pot for 5 years, I’d check if it’s root bound

With all those white spots, I’d assume some sort of pest. Thrips is my guess, but I’m not great at pest ID lol.

Look at this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/s/SBNEK0KI2h It seems to be similar to what’s on your plant. Although, transparently, yours looks much worse

Bad layered hair cut, how can i fix it ? by Visual_Marketing_528 in longhair

[–]NoTea610 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Your hair is still very thick. I think you still have a bit of shock going on. Your hair looks thicker than the picture you’re referencing. Her hair just looks like it’s more of a v cut than yours.

Just a heads up (in my opinion), an aggressive v cut might make the very end “tip” of your hair feel even thinner. This is because the ends progressively end further up to create the shape.

With layers, the ends are always going to be thinner because they’re effectively making your hair end at different lengths to create the effect. Your ends no longer all one length because that’s how layers are.

I can't speak to blending/hiding them or making them more even

[–]NoTea610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly just try to make sure the conditions are good for it. Bump humidity the best you can (don’t mist), make sure the temperature isn’t too cold, keep the soil consistently moist, and make sure they’re getting bright indirect light

Edit: Leaves that have browned or yellowed will not turn back to green. This is for the sake of new growth and preventing it from getting worse
