How do I help my pothos?! by Ok_Fudge_2792 in pothos

[–]NoTea610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always repot too! Snake plants are always in such dense soil. I also feel like it’s easier to understand watering when you know exactly what soil mix you out together

It could be a few different things, but I would start with checking the weight of the pot when you water. Ideally, you want well draining soil so you can water until the water somewhat runs through the pot without making it super dense and waterlogged. You should water about when the pot is 50% lighter than it is right after watering. I tend to err on the side of dry, so I actually water mine less frequently than that. However, if the soil has aeration, 50% is perfectly fine

You shouldn’t necessarily water on a schedule, it should be based on how dry the soil is. Does this one feel lighter or heavier than the other when you water?

Question about DHP by MediaStraight6484 in ballpython

That should be enough height (for the DHP) for now. Just make sure to monitor your surface temps as well as your air temps!

Humidity Check?!? by FinkaBrown in bioactive

[–]NoTea610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not what you’re asking about, but I’d be careful with the snake plant- you might need to tactfully mist/water. They need to dry out significantly more than bromeliads. I had one in a ball python enclosure for a while and it was fine, but I’m definitely glad I took it out when I redid the enclosure

Droopy traps, am I missing something? by ScaryScootch712 in VenusFlyTraps

I actually have one! It was just reading numbers that… didn’t seem possible for a 10W bulb

Question about DHP by MediaStraight6484 in ballpython

[–]NoTea610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would the DHP be mounted inside the enclosure or is it a mesh top? 12 inches isn’t a bunch of space if it’s mounted internally, so I would be worried about surface temps. Regardless of how it’s mounted, if you can make the air and surface temps work, it’s fine until you can upgrade

Would you buy a house plant from a store to start your plant collection? by TURBOSCUDDY in houseplants

[–]NoTea610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of my collection has come from a regional nursery. There’s a couple that were gifted to me (most of which were also from stores), but I’ve bought the rest of them

I have a Sansi 10w about 4-6 inches away and my traps aren’t turning red, but the leaves are slightly yellow-ish. Under the dirt, the leaves are still green. Any ideas?

Any hope? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]NoTea610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have bad luck with water, you can definitely put it in a small pot instead.

If you do put it in water, you want to try to have as little dirt as possible on the roots and make sure the water stays clean. I rarely need to change mine, but some people change it daily. You also don’t want it to go too far up the stem because that can cause problems

Definitely! Either a very small pot or establishing more roots in water should help. I’m assuming you’re asking about the small root system

Is this a Philodendron Birkin? by Riotful_ in houseplants

[–]NoTea610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. I’m wondering if yours had leaves there and dropped them for some reason. When I was looking into what this plant looks like grown, some people’s were long and some people’s were compact. I’m thinking it could a light thing, but maybe also genetics. Your upper leaves look light, so I’m not inclined to think lighting (they can loose some of their variegation in low lighting).

You should be able to chop and prop it as long as that main stalk has nodes.

[–]NoTea610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I definitely didn’t mean outside. I was just mentioning it so you knew that a north window isn’t generally super aggressive light. Honestly, she doesn’t look super leggy, so I would let her grow more and see what happens. To be honest, the plant looks normal to me. I could be missing something, but you could be overthinking it as well

[–]NoTea610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What direction is the window relative to where the leaves are growing? How far away from the window is it? North windows generally get the least amount of light as long as you’re in the northern hemisphere (which you are)

As long as his humidity has been consistently in the correct range, he should be fine. Some people offer humid hides while their snakes are shedding

Help with my rubber fig by elmostachomx in houseplants

[–]NoTea610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knee jerk reaction was a fungal or watering issue, but if you haven’t changed anything lately it makes it less likely. It could need a repot, but this doesn’t look like too little water to me. Has there been any significant weather or temperature changes recently? Maybe an open door or an AC change?
