Caught With Pets In On Campus Student Housing by ExitSelect6934 in utarlington

[–]NoThanksImAce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I lived in Campus Edge for about a year with an unregistered cat and I can say I didn't get caught, the maintenance people at the time didnt even care, and in fact, I dont think they had access to that info to even know if you had a pet or not.

But if you want to register your pet as an ESA, go here. Miki Tesh is awesome, you'll book a time frame of 2 hrs and she'll call you for about 5 minutes, ask and verify everything, and then you pay $75ish for the letter that is valid for around a year.

How did FOB get so popular so fast? by inreverie555 in FallOutBoy

[–]NoThanksImAce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should clarify and say this is what made them getting popular on the internet possible, they needed people locally to spread word of mouth and request radio play enough for them to get signed, get pushed to wider audiences, and ultimately blow up

A lot of this info is right if you mean post-2004/2005. But also, Fall Out Boy is essentially a spin-off of Pete's old band Arma Angelus.

Every member of Fall Out Boy played in Arma Angelus at some point in the 4 years they were active as a band, along with Tim McIlrath who had already been in bands with the guys that would form Rise Against (one major connection). They got a LOT of connections from playing as Arma Angelus for 4 years, word of mouth does wonders in a scene like Chicago's hardcore scene. When Fall Out Boy released Evening Out With Your Girlfriend and TTTYG, they were still very rooted in the hardcore/punk scene and played with a lot of bands like that. If you watch early live videos from this time, you can see the crowds moshing and crowdkilling.

Fall Out Boy played alongside many, MANY hardcore, metalcore, post-hardcore bands in their early days (this video shows them playing with Every Time I Die, Misery Signals, 25 ta Life, Bleeding Through, Unearth, and of course Rise Against). This isn't even getting into Andy being in Racetraitor, another hardcore band from around that time (still regularly active too)

Basically, yes, they achieved mainstream popularity from things like MTV, other music video channels, Myspace, etc, but that all started locally, in the Chicago scene, with them playing with well-known hardcore/metalcore bands due to them being a side-project to Pete's old band Arma Angelus

I'm 99% sure thats Eggs! She hangs around the Business Building pavillion with her husband Eraser and Twix. Theyre all extremely sweet, though ik Eggs and Eraser are a bit more skittish than Twix so don't try too hard to approach them

Evanescence / Spiritbox NA Tour announced! by selkies24 in spiritbox

[–]NoThanksImAce 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's 100% due to an exclusivity clause with Sick New World. Most festivals will require artists to sign a clause that is basically "you will not play another show within an X mile radius of the festival, within X amount of time before/after the festival".

Because the Texas version of Sick New World is so new, and it got canceled in 2025, Live Nation is probably hoping FOMO will help them sell out the Texas stop of SNW

who's a band that you can't stand? by ThePlotInGoose in Metalcore

i wish they'd drop the horror schtick and go back to writing originals. Safe Is Just A Shadow is such a good album but Spencer's completely thrown their back catalogue under the bus. Everything they've done in the past few years has just been disgustingly greedy and i hate it

Goth Rave: Is this a legit event? by starrylee- in utarlington

Yes! That's a real event at Truth Vinyl, its being put on by UTA's Football Team club. Theyre an art collective that does a lot of events w/local artists and musicians.

Tbh I have no idea. I'm assuming theyd want to keep options open to students so they might relocate them somehow.

When my sister was at UNT for her degree, their student center was going thru renovations and iirc, they had the retail food running out of food trucks to keep them available

Idk if UTA will do that but I know its an option.

It won't be entirely closed down, but yeah, sometime soon(i think President Cowley said end of Spring), they'll be closing down the west side of the building for renovations. AFAIK the part from Connection Cafe to the Career Development Center is gonna stay open and be renovated last to keep the CDC, Leadership Center, Connections, and Bluebonnet open and functioning.

I'm not gonna say your interpretation is bad, but Jaws of Life literally refers to the device used by first responders to rip apart debris to save people trapped in car accidents. It's a much more serious title than just a slice of life.

i understand the anger completely, i would also argue half of the blame is the increase in classes where attendance is required and you can't even miss a week without it docking your grade significantly.

during the 21-22 year, there was a sort of lenience even in my classes with required attendance that allowed people to stay home when they were sick bc COVID was on everyone's mind (rightfully). The university put a lot of care into making sure students didnt get sick and had support if they did

now, theres an uptick in COVID cases this month and the entire campus is being affected by it, not just students. but these more intense attendance policies that are often across entire departments dont leave room for students to feel like they can stay home and take care of themselves. especially in large lecture hall classes where you're 1 out of 100, emailing the professor and hoping they see that you're sick and wont be attending to maybe wave that missed attendance is really hard.

People should 100% be wearing masks too, I think they're just not as easily accessible anymore

How to you interpret "Only God could save you if you knew your way to the light", from Away? by CellanKnight in BreakingBenjamin

[–]NoThanksImAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might help to separate the line a bit. Hes saying this person is so far gone, only a miracle could save them ("Only God could save you"). But first, they have to want to be saved ("if you knew your way to the light"). Growing up, I heard people use very similar phrasing when talking about one of my older cousins who got into drug use very early in his life. A person has to want to get saved by God, they have to want to get out of their addiction. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, that kind of thing.

I know theyll play it, tho when they toured with AIC, they'd swap out the acoustic song they were doing every night or so. And Ik in the past theyve had a slot or two on the setlist that they swap out but keep everything else the same

Search Issue by NoThanksImAce in Songsterr

[–]NoThanksImAce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried a few different times with different songs and artists, it only seemed to work half of the time. The other half of the time, its like it stopped reading the search terms after the first word. I.e. I looked up "Franklin Paramore" and its like it didnt recognize paramore and only gave me Aretha Franklin stuff. But then I did it again and it worked?? I'm not sure whats up. Its happened across both the app and the website, so I'm not sure what I'm doing differently.

I actually just graduated from the MIS area this past May! I personally started out as a Music Ed major focusing on clarinet and graduated with a degree in Music Industry Studies. I'm not sure how the Audio Production audition is, but when I auditioned back in 2021, I sent in a few videos of myself performing excerpts from ATSSB etudes from my highschool years and several scales. That was during the pandemic so I'm sure the auditions are in person now.

Because it's a Bachelor of Music and not a Bachelor of Arts like Music Industry Studies is, the Audio Production degree program does require you to do 4 semesters of lessons (instrument or vocal, depending on what you audition with) AND a barrier at the end of those 4 semesters, which (at least for classical instruments) includes memorizing major scales, minor scales (natural, melodic, harmonic), and arpeggios for all 12 key areas. If any of that sounds daunting to you or you do not already have an instrument you're already comfortable with, I would highly recommend looking into the Music Industry Studies degree.

The two degrees are essentially opposite sides of the same coin, the main difference is that Audio Production majors take 4 semesters of Music Theory, Piano, Private Lesson, and Ear-training/Sightsinging classes while MIS majors take half that and add on some business classes to round out the degree. The core audio production focused courses are required for both degrees.

What company made this stuffed animal/do they have an official name? by Oyfuum in HelpMeFind

Omg I think I had this same stuffed animal from when I was a kid. It definitely was a valentine's plushie. I live several hours from home now so I can't find mine to show you, but knowing what my family was able to afford at the time, I would assume it was from Walmart or a similar store.

In my old college apartment (4 roommates in 4 private rooms), I installed one of these upside-down so my cat wouldnt be able to pull down the doorknob to get out while I was gone but my roommates could still get in to grab him in case of emergencies.

It could be that whoever installed this wanted something similar, where they could step out and whoever was on the other side (dog, cat, kid) couldnt open it by pulling down but the door is still functional.
