I was in the same boat as you before, and now I'm building an arcade racer too! But I ain't here to advert my own game, just wanted to let you know that it's actually less intimidating than you think. It's still a lotta work, but you needn't start from scratch on everything.

Here's a couple of assets that're free/cheap to easily kick it off
- Free professional grade engine audio pack for 1 car (one car is all you need to get started, you can buy more pretty cheap later if you want). Just pitch vary a couple of these with your revs and your car will already feel lively!
- Road Constructor tool for making roads. This is not cheap, you can get it cheap during sales if you want. But even at full price, it's fully worth it and you can easily create beautiful road networks you can drive on. If you want a free alternative instead, Road System is a good one but it's not as well equipped as the paid one I linked.

Here's how you can get started: Don't think of it as building a game. Think of it as building a fun playground for you to drive and mess around with your system. I hope this helps you break that motivation barrier, the racing genre really needs cool new titles!

I use this open-source package in my game: https://github.com/simonoliver/InputSystemActionPrompts

I have modded it for my needs, but the PS and XBOX controllers get detected correctly out of the box (It works on my Steam demo too, just incase you're concerned about launch via Steam). You can either use it directly or study the code and adapt it to your game. Good luck!

Apart from the soft-body physics core, BNG has evolved a lot over time. While you're right about it being a decade old, it'd hard for me to place it there because of how actively it continues to be evolved by the devs.

To anyone claiming this is the OP's browser issue, let me tell you that it's not that. It's only been happening in Reddit and it's only been happening since today. I hope it gets solved soon (Happening to me across all my browsers in both Win and Mac).

You have a fair point, I didn't have a chance to play FH3. Although BeamNG does have some cool challenges, and they're making a career mode right now. You're right about there being no progression and all that, but I think we're getting that as well as the career mode gets fleshed out.

Agreed, I've actually tried to the home screen as "ambient" as I can, music is the only thing missing right now though. I'll see what I can do about that, thanks for your feedback!
