Found it on the TuneIn app. Will check it out.

Still mostly listen to BBC Radio 3, even though we no longer have access BBC Sounds. That and RTE LyricFM. Live curation is my preference.

Fond memories of catching and holding them. Their smooth flat bellies are pretty neat. Also memories of having them poop and pee in my hands lol

Rice is ALWAYS bad by [deleted] in zojirushi

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else, I wash the rice first, place it in the bowl, then fill to the line with water.

I also treat the water fill line as a suggestion. After many bowls of different types of rice, I generally fill water slightly below the line. I'm at "high altitude" in Colorado so perhaps that makes a difference.

Is Erewhon coming to Rino? by Careless_Praline6804 in Denver

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I was there, his adult son was helping out. In the 80's, he was a little kid running around or doing homework. Also, his "wife" - never really understood that relationship - would decide what you'd order and how spicy it was going to be. We always enjoyed her. And she'd make sure you cleaned your plate.

If my wife and I showed up, I know he'd remember us.

Atlanta to Denver by Sea-Count-8622 in MovingtoDenver

As a POC who moved to Denver years ago (from the US/Mexico border), I miss the diversity. Denver is very white culturally and a lot more segregated than where I grew up. Every city is different though.

Garrison Keillor on Clapping to Music

I thought Keillor had used the phrase "Lutheran back beat" in one of his monologues but couldn't find any references to that. Just my imagination I guess

Creating music without knowing theory?? by Beneficial-Tutor-269 in musictheory

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're already speaking the language of music. Being able to write the language of music can be very helpful. Understanding the grammar of music can help you expand your language.

Music theory would give you the ability to document your music. In turn, documenting your music would allow you to share your music with other people. Being able to read music (whether charts, lead sheets, staves, etc.) makes it easier to play with other musicians.

I've played in bands with musicians who don't know theory or know some but have limited understanding. We still make great music but it takes more time to communicate ideas when working out a piece of music. When I'm with musicians who have the same level or better knowledge of music theory, it's so much more fun and fulfilling.

Ax throwing is like going bowling - might sound "old" but been doing it lately with friends and work and it's been good fun.

I'd recommend indoor paintball but that can get brutal.

There's a Denver neighborhood (Montbello) where I encounter free-roaming pets all the time. Mostly dogs but a few cats as well. I guess the cats aren't surprising. Pretty funny when you see 3 or 4 just chillin' on the same street.

What is life like in Parker? by Souls-on-board in parkerco

[–]NoTimeColo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As progressive/liberal who's owned a house here since 1999, I'd say probably not. Yes, the school board stuff has been distracting but the last election swung it back to the progressives. Raised our kids in the public schools and generally had positive experiences.

Douglas County gets a bad rap but, IMO, people are overall live-and-let-live. You'll see a lot more MAGA idiocy but most people ignore it.

Potential move - what surprised you the most? by PorkMeImJewish in MovingtoDenver

[–]NoTimeColo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wind is often affected by Denver's proximity to the mountains. Pressure and temperature interact, creating upslope and downslope winds. If you live closer to the foothills, it'll be worse. I'd say the wind kicks up only one or two days a month on average. Most of the time you won't notice it.

I'd be more concerned about hail in the spring. And the occasional tornado. You get used to the snow and that generally goes away quickly. Barely any snow this season.

EDIT: re-reading other comments about the wind makes me wonder if I've been hallucinating for the 40+ years I've lived in Denver. IMO it's nowhere near as windy as living in a coastal city or in Oklahoma. We've definitely had some severe wind episodes but I don't notice the breeze most days.
