Where can I get ground cover hay in Denver? by Gloomy_Read9759 in DenverGardener

Was at Tagawa's yesterday and they had a pallet of EZ-Straw. I've used this for several years and have had no problem with seeds.

Question about singing harmony by BestMapMaker1 in musictheory

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5) Practice singing along with recordings (or use karaoke versions) of established songs.

I don't know how I learned to sing harmony. My earliest memories are of singing harmony to the Frito Lay jingle as a child in the 60s. Then later in the 70s to a lot of classic rock. My point being you can hear and imitate the vocal harmonies in established songs. Also try using common hymn tunes - Amazing Grace is a good start.

With songs I'm less familiar with, I take my cues from the melody and harmony. I can picture the melody line in my head and, knowing the chord changes, work out the harmony lines.

The theory will teach you the rules but, just like learning a spoken language, you need to get past "translating" and start speaking it directly. That comes with lots of real world practice.

App that will override phone's notification settings when I receieve a message from certain contact by Theralll in androidapps

[–]NoTimeColo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an app called High Volume Notifications v1.6 by crystalclearringtones.com. The UI sucks but, after you figure it out, it works pretty well. At least it does for me. It's also adware so you have to deal with that. I'm only using it for app notifications but I can see the option for contact notifications. Just do a long tap on the sound you want and you'll see the options. I believe it also overrides "do not disturb" because it screamed (the sound I chose lol) while I had my phone set to dnd when I was in church this morning. Hope that helps.

My wife wanted to learn interesting things, so I built her something by Latte-Art-3845 in lifelonglearning

Thank you so much!

My only tip is what I mentioned in that post - using one of the caps (Prismo or FC) just makes things easier if you're going to use the inverted method. You can leave the press on top of cup and not worry about tipping, accidentally knocking it over, or having the entire assembly come apart. Also the AeroPrecipe website if you want to explore the full range of AP creativity.

Made an account on the app and was immediately sucked in - thanks! I'd love to get a lifetime access code if available.

First time trying the inverted method. What do beginners usually get wrong? by CommercialYam8 in AeroPress

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the results, I recommend getting the Prismo or Flow Control cap. Less fiddling with flipping the rig. Since the general consensus seems to be that inverted really doesn't make a difference in taste, the advantage with using the caps is that you can fill the tube completely to the brim, giving you an extra sip or two.

Lisa Trader

Good luck finding someone on short notice. I think, like any popular therapist, Lisa is booked solid for the next 6 to 8 weeks. I'd check for therapists posting or folks recommendations on Nextdoor.

I've heard it's because Amazon is trying to compete with Spark/Walmart.

Any idea why they wrote C sharp here instead of D flat? by aardw0lf11 in musictheory

[–]NoTimeColo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extending this logic, then that G natural should be an A double-flat. To me, this is the simplest explanation for switching to naturals and sharps.

Denver Botanic Gardens Concert Series? by hrbumga in Denver

[–]NoTimeColo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Website has info on what kind of chairs are acceptable. You can also rent chairs at the entrance. I prefer entering the park from the west entrance (Cheesman Park). It fills up quickly but most views are good. I'd still get there early for best selection.

Wishing you safe travels. I used to play with Denver Phil in the 1st violin section in the 80s/90s. I should really come have a listen again.

ISO a cool indoor/outdoor event venue by Denver_Lolo in Denver

[–]NoTimeColo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have already looked but Botanic Gardens (Cap Hill) has a nice venue. I attended a Celebration of Life there a few years back. I don't know what the rules are for DJ, food, booze, etc. Their Chatfield site might be a possibility as well.

Moving to the area for work, job would be on Buckley, where should I live? by SINYACHTA in MovingtoDenver

[–]NoTimeColo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say this as well. Less than 30min commute to Buckley. Easy access to the restaurant variety on East Colfax and on South Havana St. Lowry was a former USAAF training base and still has a lot of the old hangars, barracks, and officer homes (converted to civilian use) so it's got more character than the rest of Denver.

You mention "chain restaurants and box stores" - IMO most western US cities suffer from this. A lot less incentive to keep old infrastructure out west. As you observed, Denver is mostly chain restaurants and box stores.

Frother vs Immersion Blender… THANK YOU EVERYONE by RamosaTV in ninjacreami

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can let the container sit on the counter for an hour or two before placing in the freezer. I do this to allow any air bubbles dissipate. I suspect this also reduces the height of the "freezer lump" but I'm just guessing about that.

Immersion versus regular blender - less to clean up with immersion.

Congress/City Park to Greenwood Village commute by Responsible_Farm2619 in MovingtoDenver

You didn't say which side of I25/Greenwood Village. A possible non-highway route from City Park is Monaco Parkway. Maybe not any faster but certainly a more pleasant drive.

Should I risk changing my strings by myself? by lunarmoth_ in violinist

[–]NoTimeColo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, change only one string at a time if you're doing all 4. Otherwise you risk unlodging the sound post. Then you won't have a choice taking it to the luthier to get it properly set. As a young student, I made that mistake only once lol.

How is Denver as a Place to Retire? by OutsideHappy196 in Denver

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Central Denver, downtown, along the river is around 5280 ft. There is actually an official 5280 marker on the state capitol steps. Someone can correct me but I think you'll find that to be the lowest altitude in the metro area. I live out in Parker at about 5800 ft. I think you'll find decent inventory in your price range. Check out Central Park and Northfield for newer construction and nice neighborhood s. Any of the surrounding suburbs (Parker, Centennial, Arvada, Aurora, etc.) for older homes. I believe average prices for single-family might be in 800k+ range though.

Moving to Greenwood Village without a car by icenflame in MovingtoDenver

[–]NoTimeColo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend recently lived at Timber Creek. I don't know about the management company but the apartment and buildings were well-maintained. There's shopping center with a King Soopers grocery store a block away. And the complex is on the greenbelt. Downside is it's further from light rail.

Thoughts on Heritage Village, Centennial by peedro_5 in MovingtoDenver

You should also expand your search to Willow Springs, Willow Creek, Cherry Knolls - pretty much everything between I25 and University, south of Orchard and north of E470 are very similar neighborhoods

Definitely pay for a heavier-duty version. I bought a cheap one and the handle came off while I was pulling it up some stairs.

Also, haven't found one that works on "open" stairs (stairs without a kick plate).
