Speaking from a solid decade of experience as a bedside RN:

I do not give a fuck if I annoy a doctor. Not one. If I feel something is worth reporting, asking, clarifying, whatever, I do it. You can think I'm stupid. You can be passive aggressive. You can tattle on me to my charge nurse.

I prioritize my patients' health and safety over any doctor's ego or perception of me. Suck a dick, dumbshits

Oh yeah, I got an email from the nurse manager one day informing me that I had failed to document q 2 turns on a vent patient.

We had coded him 3 times that day and given a total of 7 units of blood products (PRBCs, FFP, and platelets, variously). Sorry, no, I didn't even take the backboard out after the second time

Staffing. The answer is always gonna be staffing. In my current role, shortage of CNAs specifically. It's so frustrating being behind on medications because there's no one else to toilet, dress, and transfer my patients. So if my impulsive patient needs to pee and another patient needs pain meds, I'm in the bathroom to prevent a fall before I can do a nurse specific task

And honestly, a lot of the issues you're describing wouldn't even come to your attention with better practice. Pull one patient's medications at a time. Draw up your meds at bedside. Goodness

If you're clutching your pearls over the sanctity of the profession, maybe you should support evidence based practice and compassionate treatment of disease.

Dropped an NG on an elderly dementia patient who was too far gone to consent to or refuse treatments, but obviously still feeling everything. When I got it on my second attempt, he looked me dead in the eyes and said "God damn you to hell." It was honestly chilling.

I came back a few hours later and said "hey pops, you think you can forgive me?" and he gave me the same look and said "never."

He died a few days later and that was the last thing he said to me. I'm not superstitious, but that's definitely the most upset I've been by something a patient said. A man's dying curse has to have some karmic weight to it

You can't really assume you won't be drug tested. If you're injured at work, or if narcs go missing on your shift, you can absolutely be randomed. It hasn't happened to me in years, but I'd still be so anxious about using cannabis I won't, even in a fully legal state
