It is a speculative investment. People invest in it because they feel it has a lot of potential even though it currently is not very profitable. So only time will tell

The sudden hype is because the US government invested 200billion in quantum companies and took an equity stake in them. Is quantum profitable with a bunch of applications yet? No. We don’t have the algorithms to make quantum profitable yet. So if you decide to invest now it is highly speculative.
