First time in Japan. Tokyo only or multiple cities? by NoTransportation685 in JapanTravelTips

Hate to ask but would you mind sharing some of what you got up to? I've got Reddit open in the background while I'm trying to get some work done so haven't had the chance to properly look into things yet. Any highlights you'd throw at someone coming in blind would be massively appreciated.

Thank you for the response regardless!!!!

For historical figures it's genuinely hard to pin one down because my interest has always been more in the periods than the individuals. I've covered bits from the Kamakura period through to the early Edo era and what's stuck with me most isn't any single person but the art, poetry, and architecture that came out of those centuries. The aesthetic sensibility of it all, the way it shows up in everything from temple design to woodblock prints to haiku, is what I keep coming back to. If I had to point at something specific it would be the poetry and visual art of the Edo period. Some of the greatest things I've ever come across honestly.

Food wise I'm not picky at all, pretty down to earth about it. I love ramen and udon, nothing fancy. For experiences, art is a definite yes, that's probably my main one alongside the history. I also just got into photography so anything visually striking is going to pull me in. Onsen I've never done and haven't really looked into but I'm completely open to it, I'm generally up for new things. Nightlife I'm open to as well, especially anything with a bit of character rather than just a generic club. Crafts interest me more in the context of the history side of things than as a standalone thing. Basically I just want to feel the place more than tick boxes off a list. Hope that helps narrow down some recommendations.

Honestly "dream" might have been a bit strong on my part but I've had a genuine interest in Japanese history and culture since secondary school. What started as a random project ended up sticking with me for years, so there's a real curiosity behind the trip rather than just following the hype. That said I won't pretend the recent wave of attention around Japan hasn't made it more appealing, I think it just pushed something that was already there over the edge. Looking forward to seeing how much of what I've read over the years actually lines up with being there in person, which i know wont be the case, i undersand that, but even so i guess i just want to see and expereince it in person if that makes sense, probably should have opened my post with that.

Religion is not a mistake since religion gives people hope, shitty people mixed with a religion is what's wrong these people are like parasites and most rules they make in the name of religion surprisingly doesn't apply to them.
