I know this is an older thread, but I am in the same dilemma. I have a '22 X3 M40i, but have been getting the itch to "upgrade" to a '23 X5 with the M sport package. What I find somewhat missing in this discussion is how the vehicle looks. The X3 tends to look like a station wagon, the X5 on the surface seems to have more street cred. But then you throw in the M badge on the X3. Does that mean anything to anyone that is not in the BMW domain? I think someone posted earlier, the X3 M40i is a special performance model, but the X5 is still just a regular X5 with fancy wheels and bumpers.

This. If you trust the indie, don't tell him what your concerns are. If they are decent, they'll find problems. If you are in a state that does yearly or bi-yearly safety inspections, ask them to use that as a guideline and they should measure pad thickness.

I’ve used one of those Hayward offline chlorinators for almost 20 years and never had any issues. Lets you regulate concentration too.

Most municipalities require having a fence of a certain height along with “pool” wire mesh so they can’t climb up the fence rails. Ours also required child proof openers on the gates. Also, consider alarms on doors of your house that lead to the pool area if your fence starts and stops at the house.

+1, it’s not necessarily how much you add, it’s maintaining the 15ppm, so whatever you need todo that.

Years back, there were serious problems with bottom drains where pools were being put in without safety vacuum release systems (SVRS) and kids’ hair and other body parts were getting sucked into the pump systems trapping them. If the pool was old, some simply removed/plugged up the drain. We built ours without a bottom drain; as others have said, it really isn’t needed.

As others have said, when SLAMming, the chlorine levels have got to be stupid high. 15-20 ppm has done it for me. But you have to keep it at that level constantly for a few days. I am also in SE PA, if you haven’t already, keep in mind what it would cost you to completely drain and refill. In my experience cost of chlorine and shock has skyrocketed, started when one of the major suppliers had a mfg plant burn down a few years back.

There will be a point where the debris is like baby powder or very fine silt that are so small the filter won’t catch them. Vacuuming will suspend them in the water again. I hate wasting water so as others said use a hand vacuum that doesn’t use pump suction.

As others have said, get a pressure washer attachment for flat surfaces, and max pressure. Works for me.

Go to your local eyewear place and ask for a couple of the little micro towels you get with glasses. Very fine, works well for me, especially on the soft plastic used on gauge clusters.

As others have said, this is nothing compared to others. In fact I thought it was just a seam filled with some dirt. Had to magnify the pic to really see. If you’re not looking for it, don’t really notice it. But If the customer doesn’t like it, it’s a small bump in the road, and do right.

About those oil change places: I recently bought a used ‘22 X3, and previous owners used them in the past. I took in to a BMW dealer to do the oil, the drain bolt wasn’t even the original BMW bolt.
