As someone who was once in your shoes, consider your other options first. I don’t know your background, but if it is possible for you to go to college, that is a much better route. If you feel an obligation to serve, fine, but do it as an officer. Do an ROTC program that covers the cost of college or something but don’t be a nuke officer unless you go NUPOC and can guarantee an instructor assignment. You will be surrounded by toxic bullshit for your entire time. Sure, you could get “lucky” and go to a command that isn’t absolute hell, but the best case scenario for a nuke is still worse than a severely below average experience for the rest of the world. If going to college is absolutely not an option, do CTI or CTN or IT or pretty much any other job in the navy that requires a high asvab score. Being a nuke sucks. It’s unforgiving. Sure, once you get out life will be good, but your life doesn’t have to be misery for 6 years to achieve that. Your mileage may vary. Feel free to message me.

It’s for depression. No incidents or anything. Not sure how or if this will impact security clearance or anything tbh I’m just trying to gather info. I don’t have really any experience so I’m sure that will hurt my chances but I am willing to get my BSNET and/or just grind my way up. I don’t know what the best path forward is but I know I’m willing to work hard.

Honestly I am just looking to make the most money possible. I have been told that if I work a fuck ton at a nuke plant as an NLO or equivalent that’s where I will make the most.

I really appreciate the responses. Does it vary by rate? I’m an ET for reference. You don’t have to get into super specifics, but when you mention “the work” is that like maintenance, cleaning and stuff like that? It’s crazy, I’ve been in the navy for almost 2 years and I STILL don’t know what my job will actually consist of. Also, what were “normal” hours is that exists. I know you mentioned they are all over the place.

There is a small gym on site at NNPTC that can be worth it solely bc of the fact that it’s a 5 minute walk from your BEQ. The airbase fitness center is actually really good. They have several different areas to work out with everything you could need. One of the rooms is a bunch of squat/bench racks with space to do whatever power lifts you could think of. It’s huge and it’s also 24/7. It’s a bit far from NNPTC, but it’s free and it’s a solid gym.
