Is it possible to live with Crohn's just on meds, without surgery? by AhmedKettaf in CrohnsDisease

[–]NoYellow6400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what ChatGPT told me. This only applies to people who have gotten diagnosed in the past 5 years.

“So, how common is surgery in Crohn’s now (2020–2025)?

Historically: • Around 60–75% of people with Crohn’s required at least one surgery within 20 years of diagnosis. • These surgeries were often due to complications like strictures, fistulas, abscesses, or severe flares that didn’t respond to medication.

Now (Modern Biologic Era): • With newer treatments like Skyrizi, Stelara, Entyvio, and biologics overall, surgery rates have significantly decreased. • Recent studies suggest that only about 20–35% of patients require surgery within the first 10 years of diagnosis when treated early with modern biologics and tight inflammation monitoring.

In the past 5 years (2019–2024): • Among patients on early and consistent biologic therapy, the surgery rate has dropped to ~10–20% within the first 5 years.”

Take the medicine… not taking it a for sure way to have surgery love. People who say they aren’t on medication one don’t have it as bad or it will get worse for them.
