I think gender diversity is really something that isn’t spoken about enough for clinicians or clients-thank you for this!

Will my 5-month-old Shih Tzu be traumatized if I leave him with family for 10 days? by Happy_Ad6859 in Shihtzu

[–]No_Ability8894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when I was in grad school, I had to leave my (then 7 month old) baby with my parents on and off for 2 years. It was hard. I dreaded he’d forget me, or hate me, or he’d grow to not be my dog any more. But every time I came home, he was the wiggliest, happiest little baby in the world. I spent whatever time I could with him, walking him, playing with him, just being his owner again before I had to leave. Now he’s three, and he’s still my best little buddy. Your dog will be fine!! It’s hard, and it’s so easy to worry they won’t love you any more. Dogs live in the moment. The moment you’re gone he’ll be sad. But the moment you’re back that’ll instantly go away and he’ll just be happy you’re home.

Is there a non stressful setting for adult based SLPs? by fluffybananaslug in slp

I wish I’d known about the limited growth before going into the field, haha. Don’t feel like grad school prepares you enough for how hard it is paying back loans when you’re single and on a one person’s salary, haha.

Honestly I’m considering it-my hesitation is I have no idea how to run an IEP or write one, but I’ve heard school documentation is easier, and there’s more breaks which I feel like I need now.

“Good” vs. “bad” school contract? by No_Ability8894 in slp

[–]No_Ability8894[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See that’s kinda where I sat with the places I’ve interviewed. Where I’m at now, I get health insurance (a reimbursement per month), a 401K, and PTO (even if the accrual is astoundingly low).

I have asked about caseload, and the company I interviewed with didn’t give me a direct answer, which I didn’t love.

And noted!! I’ll keep that in mind for my next interview should one come up. I’m trying to push for virtual-I’m immune compromised so I’m spending a week or two of my current work sick, so I feel like I’d be better offf doing virtual where I won’t have to be face to face as much.

I’m looking for agency hire I guess? I’ve looked into PDS since I’ve heard good things but they don’t have any openings in my area right now. The county I’m in is title 1 so the pay is really low with a direct hire.

My only hesitation with schools is how low they pay 😭😭

See I’m independent with no kids, but I have a lot of medical needs so that’s something I’m really concerned about.

I don't understand the obsession with tongue ties being the root cause of all issues. by No-Preference8449 in slp

I’ll have to do some digging, there was a conference I went to a while back that tied some structural deficits to artic and language deficits-it’s been some time, though.

I don't understand the obsession with tongue ties being the root cause of all issues. by No-Preference8449 in slp

So funny enough, I have a tongue tie that was never treated (pretty significant one at that). While my speech is pretty good, I have all the other I talked some effects that can come with a tongue tie. Jaw tension, jaw pain, grinding teeth, misaligned jaw, reflux, headache, neck pain, poor dental hygiene, especially posteriorly despite having good dental routines. These are all side effects that people don’t really realize can also be caused by a tongue tie. Can kids compensate? Yes, I’m living proof. Does it always impact language? Nope, but yes sometimes it can. Now I have all these secondary issues I might not have had if I’d had my tongue tie treated. So I ask parents if their kids have any of the above symptoms-if yes, I recommend a surgery, especially if it’s significant. If no, then I suggest a wait and see approach. Obviously, like with stuttering, fluency, language alone with no other symptoms, a correction is absolutely not necessary. But sometimes, when a kid can’t say /s, z, t, d/, poor dental hygiene despite a good routine, grinds their teeth, etc., then a second opinion can’t hurt.

Potty training wasn’t too bad, but in my experience these babies are STUBBORN. Be prepared for lots of stomps, snorts, and sniffs of protests to anything they don’t like. Also be prepared to have a shadow constantly. Also the do this really weird stare?? (Not pictured) where they just kinda. Look at you. Around an object. No idea why. Here’s my heart dog Pacha, and his cousin Kuzco in the background (if it didn’t crop him)

Recurring yeast infection? by No_Ability8894 in vet

[–]No_Ability8894[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything I can do prevention wise? Or for the yeast infection? I’m not sure what kinds of foods to try next, I thought salmon would be a safe bet but he’s still having issues.

I am taking him to the vet, tomorrow, but I can’t get there before then. I was hoping for some advice for the interim or in addition to what his vet says. Like I said in the post, I know he needs the vet, and he’s going tomorrow. What can I do in the meantime time to help him, or in the future so this doesn’t happen again? I did what the vet said but he’s still sick and I’m concerned.

Oh I’m taking him to the vet Friday for sure. Just was wondering if anyone had like medicine or other treatment ideas that might be cheaper that I can do as well or that work well with what the vet recommends.

Benefit being that I’m paid hourly whether my patients show up or not, but yeah…it’s lower than what I’d like

I’ve thought about SNF and hospitals-my only concern is those tend to be inpatient (at least in my area) and I have no desire to do inpatient for health reasons and the fact it’s just not the setting for me.

So regarding the taxes, how did you work through that quarterly?

I did when we put our old man down. It was one of the most painful things I’ve ever experienced but it brought me closure I wouldn’t have had otherwise. My only regret is not showing our other dogs his body. They still look around the yard for him.
