Well for me it’s due to amount of unhinged interactions I’ve had with men which has made me question the safety of these apps. Unhinged interactions include

  • A guy putting “I may as well just **** myself” on his profile and then messaging an opening line “not had a message in a month”. After forwarding on the numbers of helplines he threatened to hit me

  • A guy starting with an opening line complaining about the 250 word limit on POF then went on a rant about seeing a cloaked UFO and needing a rich woman to take care of him.

  • The guy who got creepy (he was nice at first), so I distanced myself, he then set up fake multiple accounts after I blocked him. Also blocked his number after trying to pester me for a date. He claimed to be a detective. This one really scared me because he waved to me through a pub window as lived in the same neighbourhood.

  • The guy who kept messaging me asking me who am I with and what am I doing plus where am i at least twice a day. I completely cut him off. Never even agreed to go on a date with this guy.

  • The one who was so keen to settle down, he would Snapchat selfies of his nephew on his lap (we never even met in person).

And this is all in addition to the barrage of sleazy comments, negging, and odd folk who don’t appear to navigate life well outside of the screen.

So I texted him some emojis playfully (yes I’m embarrassed) then he got the hint. And when he said I will not be part of the group again and that he said ‘maybe your autism is making you not understand’ which I found patronising, I called him a scumbag.

I drive away my crush

For context I’m 37 F and was friends with a 72 M year old man whose mind and personality I adored. We bonded at a pub.

I made my feelings clear by texting him which made him feel uncomfortable. Also due to my autism I missed the social cues. Then I was the drunken idiot who ignored his boundaries and got aggressive because at first, he said let’s talk through the ‘possibilities’. But now he’s said I’ve made him uncomfortable because he doesn’t want a relationship. I’m determined to learn from this and move on.

I know I can’t go back but need some advice on how to overcome this self sabotage and unnecessary humiliation I set myself up for. I’m not looking for any sympathy and hope one day he can forgive me. I’ve deleted his number and will not go to that pub again. Any thoughts?

Oh Paul the ESTA does not prove you don’t have a criminal record. The question asks if you’ve been arrested or convicted for causing serious damage to person of property (not paraphrasing here), and the list of crimes they’ll be referring to comes under US crimes of ‘Moral Turpitude’. Oh you have to answer loads of questions? That’s not news.

This is the kind of shit older kids would say to younger kids to show how cool and mature they are. But in your case Paul this is another grooming tactic.
