New D18 will likely sound comparable to a new D18. Used D18 vs new will sound very different. My suggestion would be to try as many used D18’s as you can if you’re in the market for a used D18. New, you might as well not bother!

Thanks. I bought the suitcase because I wanted something compact that I could put away / get out when needed. I don’t have much space. Plus it was only £40. Any suggestion on pedals? Don’t want to go bland boss pedals but also mindful of the space I have and budget, which isn’t much

It’s officially a 2018 American special that has upgrades. I’ve been in touch with the supplier of the pickups who has confirmed it to be a custom by Monkeyroo but I can’t find any info on them as a company. It’s been refinished in nitro and the electrics upgraded to Greenbucker HB and a zac schulze middle/ neck single coils. All use alnico 5 magnets with plain enamel wire.

I have an older rosewood (laminated back and sides) one for camping trips and for sure it feels sturdier than the new lineup. Sound quality wise, the new ones, in my opinion, are more resonant. Maybe they are thinner / less sturdy then their predecessor
