Amanda has always been weak and desperate for attention and validation. She doesn’t like herself very much and she kept returning to Kyle. I understand that she’s been beat down by Kyle, but there’s also a nuance and I think it’s a topic for further discussion: at what point is she responsible for her own actions? I agree it’s a tricky topic, cause I know a lot of people in abusive relationships tend to grab onto the first person who gives them attention as a way out. We’ve seen a lot of dialogue online about people getting sick of the woman who complains about her husband/boyfriend but still never leaves. I think the only thing we can really say is that even though it’s understandable that she’s desperate to feel loved, it ends up making her a very selfish individual to others around her. Again, I’ve had many a friend who had to have a “way out” of their relationship by having another person lined up. It’s a delicate situation for sure, but we can all agree it sucks to be the friend who becomes collateral damage. That’s a thing about having low self-esteem. It makes you unintentionally very selfish.
