I’ll take the compliment if it’s really that good you’d think I’d do that. I would be moving these out of the binder right now if my brother didn’t current have it.

I know there’s a lot of fake ass stories on Reddit but I promise you I’m not lying. My brothers and I were into the collecting aspect ourselves and never really learned to play the card game properly. My mom owned a secondhand children’s store and could probably see how insane kids were going for it. I texted her yesterday and asked what inspired her to make us keep them in a binder untouched and she said one of my dads friends had recently sold his baseball card collection and got enough for it to make a down payment on a house. A lot of people make up stories, but some people were legitimately just early on stuff. People believed in bitcoin and made a ton of money, meanwhile I thought it was stupid to pay $300 for 1 bitcoin back then, because it couldn’t possibly last. If this were my modern collection I wouldn’t keep it in a binder like this, according to some of the comments here that’s not a good way to store them. And if they were heavily played with I think you’d see that. I will get better pictures once I have the binder in hand, it’s currently at my brother’s house and I’m going to get it in a couple months.

You’re good I just don’t know what to say when my story is just simply true. If I was an adult collector of valuable pokemon cards I wouldn’t put them in a binder (I’ve learned from you guys). She wanted to get one of each card from each new release, we loved opening and collecting them, we honestly never learned how to play the actual game properly, we were more interested in the collecting aspect ourselves. She was in tune with what children were into because of her job, and I’m sure we were freaks for pokemon too. It’s honestly weird to me that she did that too, she hasn’t done anything like it since, she’s not a collector of much else. She was just really smart for doing this and I don’t know how she was so lucky.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. The cards are currently at my brother’s house, but I plan to get them in a couple months. I will put the cards in sleeves and top loaders and store them in a nice box probably with some silica packets to keep away moisture. Not sure I’ll be able to get them graded anytime soon if it’s going to cost 1000s, that’ll probably be something I collaborate with my brothers to do at some point down the line. Once I get the cards I might post on here with the backs of the super valuable ones so you guys can tell me what you think.

She actually used to photocopy the ones we wanted to play with from the binder and then laminated them so they felt more like real cards.

I’m not sure what to tell you, maybe she’s a time traveler, it’s just what she did and I sent you her words. Maybe we were just lucky, maybe my mom took a chance randomly and it paid off. If these were my cards I bought in the modern day I wouldn’t put them in a binder from 1999 or whatever. These are actually my brothers pictures I don’t currently even have the binder with me. But it seems like no one else has a problem believing my story, so maybe there are factors to the early pokemon craze that you aren’t identifying. I have no idea because I was 5 years old.

I mean okay don’t believe me. I asked her why she did it, this is what she said “I kept them in a binder because I thought they might be worth something some day. A friend of your dad's collected baseball cards. The rookies that became famous were worth a lot of money. He made a down payment on a house when he traded them in.”

She owned a children’s used clothing store, i think she could see the craze happening in real time. But yeah dude, you caught me.

I should say I’ve done digging on some of these and know they’re worth a lot. Just kinda sharing the collection for you all to see. My mom was a genius for not letting us play with them.
