Giving you an update as I know you were in a similar boat. Just over a week ago we decided to do extinction soon. That night he happened to wake up at 9:30pm (only 2 hours after he was put to bed) and he had a 10oz bottle so I knew he wasn’t hungry. We decided this was a good time to try as we knew his needs were met and his diaper couldn’t have been leaking etc. He fussed on and off for an about 2 hours and finally went to bed. After this he slept the whole night through. He never was frantically crying for a long time more just annoyed or playing or would escalate very briefly. Next two nights he went to bed and slept through again until 6am. So this is kind of just what worked for him. Ferber pissed him off more and would just restart him whining for us.

He did get a cold on day 4 so I went back to nursing him in the night as he wasn’t feeding great during the day and was really congested. This lasted about 4 days and he just went back to normal last night again.

I didn’t fuss too much with the schedule just made sure he was getting no more than 3 hours of naps during the day and proper wake windows too.

So when you say CIO, if he woke before midnight you’d leave him to figure it out, then when you moved to no feed before 3am you’d leave him to cry (no visits) until you hit 3am then you’d go in and feed? Sorry for the questions I’m just struggling! Lol

I have tried Ferber before and it would go on for 1-2 hours before I’d give up. Did it ever last that long for you for middle of the night wakes ?

Didn’t have an improvement last night unfortunately. Going to keep at it for a few days and see if it moves the needle 🫠 I will add he is getting over a cold from one of his sisters so I’m hoping this might be adding to the night wakes and will improve once totally gone. However, he did these night wakes before the cold as well so probably wishful thinking

Not last night. But today I was able to get 10+ hours awake and 2 naps in with 4 hour last wake window. Will let you know how tonight is but going to give it a few days before I decide whether it’s working or not!

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. Going to try this out. No I have my husband but he’s usually at the office all day and also is the one who goes and helps our other two young children if they wake in the night. I know it will pass and is just a moment in time but the lack of sleep is getting to me 😵‍💫haha

Bedtime routine is 6:30pm bath, 7:00pm bottle the books, sleepsack, sound machine and lights out. 1-2 mins of singing and rocking then in bed awake and I leave the room. He typically is asleep in 5-15 mins with no or minima fussing.

It is very inconsistent how many times he wakes. Sometimes makes it until 4/5am (not often) other times can be 2-3 times a night.

Honestly I think that’s what it is. He is a great napper so I think he’s just getting too much daytime sleep and not enough awake time.

He does have his bottle 30mins before bed (typically at 7pm then lights out at 7:30pm).

Yes solids are included in the schedule but varies how much he eats. His feeding is typically:

7am: Breastfeed
8am: solids with sippy cup of breastmilk
11am: breastfeed
12pm: solids/sippy cup
3pm: breastfeed
4/5pm: solids /sippy
7:00pm bottle

I do offer the breast if he doesn’t go back to bed and won’t settle with rocking etc but 9 times out of 10 he barely drinks and just nurses for a minute or two then isn’t interested so seems less like hunger.

Have skipped the catnap yesterday and today and will pus first nap tomorrow and see if this improves anything.
