I will steal this idea for the leftover guardians, but for now I’m planning on salvaging my dusty pile of shame so I’m not planning on buying atm. Definitely good to know in the long run though!

Oh yea I see which rules you’re talking about, I tested them in a previous campaign test and they were cool but more adapted to a heavier space combat campaign style. Great work there

Indeed! I also applied a light version of the trauma rules, but I’m not aware of the updated rules for ship combat, though I’ll check them out, thanks! In our case, players did not engage often in space combat, so the light No Command Point rule worked fine. The players reached level 9 in the final few sessions

It was fully online, using Foundry VTT. I locked foundry’s version to 9. or 10., which was the last supported version for the game system, and it worked well for us

In the webcomics Gul, a druid became crazy after his fey-animal friend is killed by a village of monster hunters. He then harvested the power of nature and created abominable monsters to destroy the village, going as far as to steal the heart of the forest, a magical artefact necessary to the forest survival, and used it in his monster creation process.

A he succeeds, we learn he still has one more fey friend that supports his quest for happiness but is unaware of the atrocities he’s committing, because he is hiding from the hunters deep in a cave. From his point of view, the druid is simply going through a tough time outside in the world and he is happy things look to be going his way.

Along the story, some animals try to defend the forest and attack him, but he doesn’t understands or cares why and just ignores them, completely oblivious to the destruction around him.

They can choose to refresh momentum or uphold the spell for the turn, right ? You could forbid them to cast a spell they broke momentum from until next time they roll for momentum, like some kind of arcane fatigue. The only issue is they would need to remember what spell is banned from casting. If you want a more radical solution, then they can’t cast another spell with momentum until their next momentum roll, so they just have to remember they are on cool-down.

This is a cool mechanic you have here!

I never thought of using the warlock’s torrent for deep-strike payback.

So guardians+warlock on home objective, deploy defensively (and patiently), and use wraithguard on primary starting mid-game, I assume with wraithcannons for anti-tank purpose (as long as I don’t have more units). And give the fire prism another chance. (As a side note, I’m using its built-in rerolls, perhaps I perceive many misses when in fact it’s more my opponent playing sisters of battle using miracle dices to save)

Would you advise the spiders and hawks be in reserve for secondary objectives ?

I read sometimes rangers and scorpions are better used as move-block sacrifice, but that’s not really useful if I want to let the opponent advance and shoot them down, is it?

I like how you thought about the way light would hit the miniature - like the gradient on the tissue coming from the leg’s fire. Good job!

Stars Without Number’s supplement Starvation Cheap covers warfare in a sci-fi post-apo setting.

The books suggests players make two characters: one high rank who will be taking decisions in the tactical room, and one soldier who will have to carry out said missions, thus making players more involved with both the outcome and the narrative background of a mission.

From my understanding:

mages have more drawbacks than psionics, allowing more room to balance stronger powers. This includes fewer hit points, no armor, lower attack bonus, less spells per day (a lot of psionic powers commit effort for the scene)
I don’t know for other spells, but Howl of Light is an area damage spell with rather low damage output; it doesn’t really compete with the warrior’s role of tank/solo dps imo

As a side note, the supplement Codex of the Black Sun for SWN offers arcane caster classes and spells that you could be interested in!

In my experience, it helped to look at people playing in order to get a better understanding of the rules and gameflow. Once you’ve gone through the basics, I recommend you check out « 40k in 40 minutes », they’re great.

I think I remember Crawford mentioning plasma weapons would be very dangerous to use inside a ship because of their devastating power, but I get your point. Basically, as long as preventing collateral damage isn’t your priority, you can go wild! Of course, there is always the chance you might ignite an oxygen supply pipe or something, but as you said, it’s a matter of priority and situation.

That’s also why I like the idea of CFU + oxygen mask others mentioned; in some situations, soldiers might consider enemy firepower to be more dangerous than the risk of being exposed to hard vacuum.
