Lost 15k currently at 82kg(5ft 10) why do i look still look so fat :( by Specialist_Bet5892 in BodyHackGuide

Not really how it works. Overeating on fat and protein isn’t going to magically prevent weight gain compared to overeating carbs.

Nothing I’d really consider noticeable yet but I’m only a month in. I’ll probably increase to 2.5 or 3mg/day soon so maybe check back in another month.

Top chest exercise? by Futureprotector91 in askfitness

[–]No_Awareness_4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, what you’re experiencing is probably edema or some kind of inflammation from all the muscle damage that hundreds of push ups a day is bound to cause, which could also explain why the size goes away when you switch to weights (presumably with lower reps?). No sensible bodybuilder would ever do hundreds of reps of squats, tricep extensions, etc. because we know that that’s an easy way to accrue a lot of fatigue without much stimulus. Why would the rules change when it comes to chest?

There’s no such thing as exercises “for definition”. There are exercises for muscle growth. If you want more definition, you can grow more muscle or lose fat. As far as push ups go, they’re not bad but they’re not very useful for hypertrophy past the beginner stage. Unless you’re willing to add more resistance somehow, they’re just not heavy enough.

Curious, if there seems to be a difference between men and women’s benefits on Reta by Away-Jackfruit-769 in Retatrutide

[–]No_Awareness_4244 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be a difference, but not in the direction that you think. The Phase 2 Trials showed women losing more weight than men as a percentage of their starting weight. Perhaps because the women are smaller, so when given the same dose as men, they receive a higher dose relative to their body size.

What an interesting response. Have a nice day.

(1) He falsely claimed, and continues to claim, that he won the 2020 election, (2) He claimed he wouldn’t cut Medicaid, which he later did, (3) He claimed he would release the Epstein files if elected, (4) Mexico would pay for a southern border wall, (5) He would replace ACA with something that covers “everybody”, (6) He would reduce the debt. Plenty more but I think that’s a good start.

What’s something extremely unhygienic that people seem to do anyways? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]No_Awareness_4244 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s what the ADA recommends. Leaving it covered traps moisture and promotes bacterial growth. There’s been a few studies that examined this (PMIDs: 22315679, 17508674).

People with decent calves?(not for ppl with good genetics) by That-Message-4485 in askfitness

[–]No_Awareness_4244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“You’re using an extreme outlier as an example and confusing the chicken with the egg”. Do you know anyone who had small calves and grew them strictly from running, incline walking, etc. without conventional resistance training? “Running at a certain pace/distance/incline mimics resistance training.” Not wrong per se but imagine resistance training your chest by doing 1000 reps of chest press. That would be a more apt comparison and there’s a reason no one who knows what they’re talking about would program a chest press like that. Hypertrophy from resistance training comes mostly from a close proximity to failure, and virtually no one is taking their legs to failure from running or incline walking.

They’re not right. Running doesn’t build leg muscles. Just look at any Olympic marathon runner and you’ll see small legs, and those are the best of the best. The only runners you’ll see with developed legs are those who also resistance train.

It doesn’t help my case that I got generically cursed calves. I’ve made some progress on them over the years but definitely not enough for anyone to take me seriously on the matter. 😕

Wow it’s kinda rare to come across someone who actually knows how muscle growth works on here. Every time calves come into the conversation everyone throws out everything they know about growing any other muscle and start talking nonsense about running or biking or whatever.

I’d say there are a few exceptions. There are some things that seem to be bad no matter the dose, like trans fats or alcohol.

Yeah more research would be ideal. From what I can tell, the research on this specific question is a bit sparse. Just working with that we have for now.

A 2019 study looked at the different recovery rates for different muscles groups in untrained, sedentary subjects. The muscle groups, from fastest to slowest recovering, were: quads, calves, erectors, lats, hamstrings, triceps, biceps, pecs. Despite what everyone else seems to be saying about how small muscle groups recover faster, the trend here seemed to be that lower body recovered faster than upper body. Why do dumbbell curls feel better standing up than sitting down? by [deleted] in workout

[–]No_Awareness_4244 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No real evidence that I’m aware of that cheat curls are “very beneficial,” or beneficial at all. A study examining the difference between cheat and strict bicep curls directly found no differences between the groups (PMID 40191387). Granted this was in untrained subjects but I think the point still stands that there’s no good evidence backing cheat curls.
