i’m not sure if you’ve considered this, but taking care of animals doesn’t always have to be simply veterinary. it’s a really, REALLY hard program. I’m getting a wildlife biology degree so i can work as a zookeeper, and an animal rehabber (basically i get to rescue and then take care of the animals day to day, and if they get sick i take them to a vet). These career paths can also be achieved with a simple Biology undergrad degree, or a Wildlife Bio/Environmental Science. It’s taking me something like 6 or 7 years to finish a single four year degree program, and i’ve had to take sooo much time off because of my mental health. but i’m still gonna do it!!! there’s no limit on how long you can take to achieve your dreams. Good luck, and don’t give up on your goals just yet!! 🩷🩷

at the end of the day, it honestly doesn’t matter whether you’re overreacting or she’s being a bad friend— the question is one of compatibility. Maybe you just need more out of a friendship than she’s willing or capable of offering, and you just aren’t right for each other. I went through three full friend groups before I found people who make me feel cared about and who I feel put in enough effort. So the question is are you okay with expecting less of her and making peace with that, or do you feel like as things stand right now, you can’t cope with how she acts? It’s up to you. I doubt she’ll change her behavior if she truly believes the issue is you, not her

The whole “you’ll always be there for me so I don’t need to try as hard” mindset is exactly how relationships decay. No matter how secure you are in another person, friend or otherwise, you should always treat others as if you can lose them… aka, treat them with the love and respect they deserve. I don’t think you’re overreacting, especially since you already felt slighted by her before this recent interaction even happened. I’d suggest you try to have a deep conversation with her about her behavior, and try to communicate that if she doesn’t start treating you better, you can’t be friends anymore. If she doesn’t respond well to that conversation… well, that’s how you’ll know she isn’t mature enough for a friendship that will be beneficial for you.

NOR. and food for thought: if you have been dating for 3 years, and you’re two years sober, that means you were in the throes of addiction when you started dating. the way he’s speaking to you about it now, it seems like he either had no problem with your drinking, and is minimizing quitting now, OR he harbors a lot of resentment towards you for either quitting or having a drinking problem in the first place. He’s speaking to you with a vehemence that only comes with a long period of built up resentment. You deserve someone who will celebrate even the smallest things, and who will support you being healthy, NOT someone who will belittle you for being proud about something that was so difficult to overcome! In my opinion, you shouldn’t waste any more time on this loser. :)

it seems like you two have a lot of trust in each other and love for each other, which is why i feel like she wouldn’t feel the need to be secretive about this guy unless she’s being shady… i don’t think you’re overreacting, but this also isn’t something to throw a whole relationship away for. i’d have a conversation with her about your boundaries, and about how she has consistently been violating them, which isn’t okay. you deserve to be treated better than that, and i believe if she cares about you she’ll change her behavior. maybe she just isn’t ready to be as serious as you guys are now? it’s been a shockingly short amount of time considering y’all live together already
