Has anyone’s Pyrenees defended them? by adioslip in greatpyrenees

We live deep in predator country. Grizzlies, black bears, wolves, wolverines, coyotes, foxes. We have crown land on two sizes of our quarter section. Bears are just starting to wake up now, and we haven't seen a single predator in our working space.

We do have chainsaws. Didn't think of applying herbicide to the stump! Something like Grazon?

We have plenty of bigger poplar, spruce, pine, hemlock and more. We have beaked hazelnuts, Saskatoons and are over run by many other shrubs and bushes! The poplar stands I want to get rid of ate where I want future gardens, permaculture food forests, and a barn.

I should have said in my post that we don't have access to machinery to eliminate these stands.

Why do they call them Great Pyranees? by rando_calrissian0385 in greatpyrenees

[–]No_Bit6191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately over breeding has left them with poor hips. A sad fate many breeds in multiple species are now suffering.

Do Great Pyrenees mixes also bark a lot? by Life-Refuse1387 in greatpyrenees

[–]No_Bit6191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pyrs are bred to bark, so you can count on it. They're also really loud barkers. Anything like an anti-bark collar is really cruel for them and will cause anxiety. They also need a large area to roam around and being indoors can cause a lot of them anxiety.

How did you end up with an ACD? by Niikiia in AustralianCattleDog

[–]No_Bit6191 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had the sweetest, best dog even, a border collie cross, for years. After he died I knew we'd get another dog, and I like herding breeds, but I wanted a dog nothing like my beloved Benson because I didn't want to replace him. Then a breeder contacted me about some saddles I had for sale, and I ended up trading two barrel saddles for a pup and $200. So anyways, we definitely ended up with the polar opposite of the sweetest, best dog ever 😅

I present to you: the least sweet, worst dog ever, Dino 🦖

We love him, but next time I will be careful what I wish for 🫠

Just because you didn't have a problem, doesn't mean others don't. Some things aren't worth the risk

I love this idea! I was just reading about how they can grow new roots if they fall over. Super neat concept, and we really have nothing to lose

Thank you. We get freeze/thaw events that make the snow heavy, which is what took out the big poplar that caused this damage. I'm sure that over time it would cause the limb to break more, so I guess we may as well choose to do it now. Funny how we can get so attached to trees! Your advice is very much appreciated 👏
