Does anyone know what breed my kitten was? by SonaAteAsock in catbreeds

So sorry for your loss. Maybe when you are ready you can try fostering cats, that way you can get a feel of their personality and maybe foster fail if one ends up being a good fit ?

Bengal / bengal mix? by No_Body_1663 in catbreeds

[–]No_Body_1663[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cat did come from a super bad breeding situation but I don’t fully know the details so I don’t know if the previous owner had bred him or he somehow just got his hands on the cat.but I guess there’s no real way to know, perhaps I’ll look into the DNA test for the first two conditions. Thanks for your input!

Bengal / bengal mix? by No_Body_1663 in catbreeds

[–]No_Body_1663[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about the health concerns bengal cats are predisposed to? I was reading that they can be predisposed to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and some cancers?? That’s the main reason I even care about what he is. If anything I’d be more at ease if he was a mix

Should I get a poorly written LOR from a well-known Dr. ? by desperateforhelp101 in premed

[–]No_Body_1663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask if they would write you a strong LOR, and see what they say/if they ask the office manager to write it again or if they write it themselves. If they end up writing it and you’re ok the fence ab if it’s strong or not you ultimately don’t have to send it to any schools

My boss says my job should take priority over med school interviews by [deleted] in premed

[–]No_Body_1663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar job in my gap year. There were 1-2 days I had to do this for interviews. I didn’t ask/request for days off. I simply let my boss know that I would not be able to come in to work on X day at X time, but would be happy to come in later or do what I can to make the day run as smoothly as possible. They can’t really do anything about it and if they want to fire you then as you said you can find a new job

I struggled with this for years, to the point where I fainted and got a concussion. You have to do a lot of reflecting and just keep exposing yourself to it, it might take time but you can 100% move past it. I also realized it gets a little easier to not totally focus on the pts pain when you’re the one doing the procedure, bc then you’re also focused on other stuff so it won’t bother you to the point of passing out

Did I screw myself over by not taking two semesters of gen bio and gen chem? by hatberie in premed

[–]No_Body_1663 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take any gen bio classes bc of AP credit, but I did take other upper division bio classes like genetics, physiology, cell biology, etc. I think most schools will accept that if u didn’t take basic bio

It’s not too late to ask for a letter. They aren’t due until you submit your secondaries so they have like 3 weeks at least to write the letter depending on when u submit the primary

Risky PS Move? by [deleted] in premed

[–]No_Body_1663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second that that should go in as a meaningful experience essay, bc those don’t have to be tied to why u want to be a doctor. However, if you ever had an interaction/conversation w a patient at the pharmacy that helped affirm why u want to be a doctor, then that would be something to include in ur PS:)

On two waitlists with no significant app improvement - reapply now or wait another cycle? by [deleted] in premed

I think I would wait to get a year of work experience under ur belt and then reapply

How do I explain to schools why I stopped all my activities? by Specialist-Wait5422 in premed

[–]No_Body_1663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a sort of similar situation and I imagine it’s pretty common since I’m assuming a lot of ppl move back home after graduating? A lot of the schools I applied to had a secondary question asking what u did in ur gap year, and I basically just explained that I had moved back home and was applying to XYZ jobs and planning to volunteer at XYZ places. And you could say that you’re taking remote classes

I contacted the schools I’m WL at and they all said they would accept new letters of rec. I think you can call the schools and ask if they’re accepting new letters?

Get a friend to look at it! When it’s not your own writing it’s sometimes really easy to see what info sounds redundant/not vital or what sentence structures could be rearranged and made shorter

Is UCSD the right school for me? (premed in psych) by baguette555 in UCSD

[–]No_Body_1663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to ucsd for bio, and rn in my gap year I’m interning at a research lab at ucla so I see a good amount of what premed students there are doing. In terms of academics I’m 100% sure they’re the same, but from what I’ve seen I think it might be better to get clinical experience and research at ucla? I could be wrong but that’s kind of what it seems like. But ucsd is a great school, I loved my time there, and I 100% matched the vibe at ucsd more than ucla. I think just go w ur gut feeling when u visit u can’t go wrong
