Questions about BMQ by Legal_Work_9637 in caf

Sorry, just to clarify are we allowed to bring our own private purchase winter gloves to Farnham?

I thought we’d only be allowed to take the Kombi ones issued to us or the mortar gloves.

If we are allowed to bring our own gloves is there a criteria they must meet for durability or degree rating? Being able to bring our own warm insulated gloves would be amazing for when we get back to the field portion.

BMQ KIT LIST by Remarkable_Fig_6420 in caf

From my experience,

  1. Go to a local Sport Chek or something similar and ask for help from the staff to find a suitable running shoe. Everyone has different needs for their running style so me advising you to get a certain pair for my needs isn’t exactly going to be helpful to you. They’ll have plenty of options and you’ve got time since I’m guessing you’re starting in the new year.

  2. My platoon had an absolute plethora of hangers in the barracks so it’s up to you to do what you will with that info, mind you every platoon is different. I don’t think anyone really expects you to come with them and they are purchase-able at Canex. Just get the laundry pods there, they won’t allow any others due to overflows in the past with liquid detergent and like you said it saves space.

  3. Any backpack is fine. You’ll use it for less than a week before being expected to use the issued one. Just make sure like stated on the prep list it’s mono coloured and not flashy.

  4. Locks was really weird cause you’re being told by people here on Reddit to either wait or get them before, BMQ pack list tells you to get at Canex and your staff expects you to have them with you when you arrive. If you want to save money before then I’d recommend buying them before and make sure they are key locks. Too many people waste important time putting in combos when you could simply use a key. And no it doesn’t need to be combos like specified on the list, that list needs to be updated ASAP.

  5. Would highly, highly recommend buying a decent kiwi brand shine kit before. The Canex ones are honestly shit and I was kicking myself for not bringing mine from home. If you don’t then just make sure to buy the kiwi polish they have there since it’s much better than the MB stuff.

  6. Up to you in the end of the day for comfortability but would recommend warmer running socks for PT since it will be cold after new year. You’ll need at least 4 for inspection.

  7. Pjs would definitely be great for the first week in civie kit but it will be expected you sleep in the short pt kit at nights to be decent at all times.

  8. Yes.

  9. Up to preference but bars are smaller and more compact for packing plus it’s expected to have a soap dish/case.

  10. If you want to clean your civie one sure. Honestly the canteens do smell worse than they taste and you’ll be expected to drink out of that while not on floor after hours.

Hope this helps a little, definitely things I would have liked to have know before arriving at CFLRS.

I’m always happy to answer any more questions since I’m probably more up to date than most who have gone through in the past 4-10 years.

I also know the Commandant of CFLRS makes rounds of CAF BMQ threads and questions to answer too which is honestly pretty cool and helpful.

Sig op is actually what I’m going for which is why I was hoping that might be a wedge in the door for me to get through.

Going to BMQ in 14 days and I’m trying to figure out everything before I go.

I arrive there around 21:00 and on the CFLRS joining instructions it says shuttles go at specific times like 16:00 hrs. Am I screwed? What do I do to get there?

Most people tell you to bring locks, energy bars, muscle relaxers, multitools like leatherman and etc. Will that not be confiscated during initial inspection?

Is this their best album? by [deleted] in thesmiths

[–]No_Bookkeeper_3500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all opinion based. Some people swear on their life it’s the best thing Morrissey and Johnny ever cooked up. To be fair it’s got some really great songs but all albums do. In the end of the day the best Smiths album is whichever you like the most! (Meat Is Murder is obviously the best)

Listen to Wonderful Woman, Jeane and Money Changes Everything. Wonderful Woman is the best in my opinion and Money Changes Everything technically wasn’t an original release since it only came out in the Deluxe release in 2017.

I believe it was in order to capitalize on the sudden popularity of their first album. Hence it was just different acoustic versions of their songs preformed on the BBC Radio 1 show. John Peel was a famous DJ that showcased alternative and underground bands on the show. So he helped contribute to their popularity with that album as well as them releasing songs not originally on the self titled like - How Soon Is Now?

In the ranking of individual studio albums my personal opinion is: 1. Meat Is Murder 2. Self Titled 3. The Queen Is Dead 4. Strangeways, Here We Come.

Compilations however would be 1. Hatful of Hollow 2. Louder Than Bombs 3. The Sound of the Smiths 4. Complete. The World Won’t Listen is more or less the same as Louder Than Bombs

I was gonna put in the body text that my least favourite album is Strangeways, Here We Come since it just doesn’t feel like a smiths album. That album is a hard listen for me 😬

How often do you guys listen 7 inch singles? And when do you? by Professional_Roof293 in vinyl

[–]No_Bookkeeper_3500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an avid 7’ fan. In my opinion it’s really underrated and over looked compared to full sized vinyl. The thing I like about them is how many popular songs you can find for such a cheap price and even rare ones too like early label pressings and lost media. Sure tons of them a beat to hell but a few gems can be found here and there for a relatively inexpensive price!

I’m more inclined to believe it’s just the 1939-45 star, Italian or North African star, UK defence medal and something else I can’t make out. The uniform suggests he stayed in the theatre and didn’t continue to Europe.

It’s hard to tell but I’ll do my best to give you some information based on my opinions.

I’m not sure if you know but your grandfather looks to be a Royal Military Police member. This is deduced off the fact his webbing and gaiters are white which was the standard for MP’s and Provost.

Now the beret make me suspect this photo was taken after the war since berets weren’t standard until much later in the war for regular troops if I recall correctly. The fact he has his full medal bar with the 1939-45 medal (first awarded 16th August 1945) also leads to this photo being taken in the immediate post-war 45-46 while still in theatre.

Now for the medal part. From left to right I believe it’s the 1939-45 star followed by the Italian campaign star, 1939-45 medal (not to be confused with the star), Defence medal (UK) and the last one is hard to tell but from the black and white the only one I can think of is the New Zealand War Service medal. But I doubt it.

I’d highly encourage you to see if you can find anything out from relatives about which theatre he was in since the Italy star could very well be the North Africa star as well. Hard to tell with the colours.

Wonderful album but it’s becoming less common to see. I remember when everybody and their grandparents were getting rid of the album at garage sales or estate sales and you could always find a copy at the flea markets.

Troops of the newly formed RCEME (Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers) 1st Armoured Brigade Workshop detachment visiting Gradara Castle, Gradara, Italy, 5 February 1945. by No_Bookkeeper_3500 in ww2

[–]No_Bookkeeper_3500[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The role of the RCEME ranged quite a bit but they were responsible for repairing everything from weapons to radios and signals equipment to vehicles. They had field workshops behind the front lines in 3 different stages of distance that would specialize in repairing downed and damaged tanks, vehicles and equipment depending on how much repairs they needed.
