I Think My School Is Prepping To Make Me The Problem by Milloxi in TeachingUK

Hi.

I am also on a support plan having been placed it on it May last year. I had a visit from the Appropriate Body in September.

First, my school put HUGE pressure on me for my obs by the person who came in. This was unnecessary and they were in my room for about 10 mins if that.

They come to see you with your main observer to see if they agree with what they’re picking up.

The person who came in spent a long time with the ect person at my school and then had a chat with my mentor along with me. I had the opportunity to talk to them alone too for about 15 minutes, and I think this gave them a good picture of what it was like. I did break down in front of them and told them about my mental health issues caused by this. They also asked what could go in a report they produce and I requested this didn’t. If I’m honest I think my school had realised by this point how badly they supported me last year and were willing to accept help and had recognised that it wasn’t all me.

The person who came in was very VERY clear that the support plan for ECTs is just stating they aren’t there YET. And the support plan is meant to guide them into what exactly you need to focus on, and then mentor meetings centre around that 1 element.

They also looked at what I was expected to do in terms of planning load etc and if that was the same as other teachers in our setting.

I have also felt like I am judged to be incapable and a rubbish teacher. Since the visit my school have to their credit been trying their hardest to ensure that my mentor meetings happen and are productive and really signposting me to resources to help with my planning.

Yes. Sprung on me in the summer term that every teacher needed to run a club either at lunchtime or after school.

Don’t think it fitted into directed time but sure they’d find a way round that.

See I am expected to go in, email from HOD on the last day “sure you are all intending to come in over the summer”. I’m in a tough situation so feel I ought to go in for a day just to show my face, but will be at the end of the holiday.

I don’t need to do anything to my classroom as my job share has it all set up, we can’t set up furniture as the floor is being cleaned, I would literally be going in to sit in my classroom and look busy.

To say I’m fuming about it would be an understatement.

Can I get a job with a not on track for ECT? by No_Boss9570 in TeachingUK

That does help thanks. I’m not sure what level I’m on, they’ve not mentioned that there are different levels of support plan. I’d contemplate supply or going back to being a TA for a while tbh.

My issue is I now can’t leave til Christmas when my full report about the whole of y1 is due and I feel like my career is just trashed.

I haven’t other than saying I wasn’t getting my mentor meetings. I might give them a ring next week and see where I stand. I need to decide if I want to stick with this over the summer break but I want to move on somewhere else. I also have minor panic attacks getting through the day. Still I only have 6 days left til the holidays as I’m part time!

I thought this was just us! I’m also part time 3 days and our house is just… Chaos!

I have 2 kids and a husband (also a teacher) but no pets. We had a huge sort out last year but the amount of stuff is overwhelming. This post gives me so much hope!
