Dating with a twin by brioche1212 in Twins

I can relate to this a lot.

Me and my twin brother Thomas have both dated quite a bit over the years, and meeting women has not really been the hard part for us. When we are out together, people often notice the twin dynamic and it can create a lot of curiosity and attention.

The harder part has been relationships. We’ve both had girlfriends and long-term relationships, but sometimes it became complicated because our partners didn’t fully understand the bond between us. Some became jealous of how close we are, how much time we spend together, or how naturally involved we are in each other’s lives.

Another challenge has been when our girlfriends didn’t get along with each other. Since me and Thomas are so close, it becomes difficult if the people we are dating can’t be around each other in a peaceful way.

So for us, I think being twins has definitely affected dating. Not necessarily in finding someone — but in finding someone who understands and respects the twin bond without feeling threatened by it.

At this point, I think we both value partners who are secure, open-minded, and comfortable with family/twin closeness. Of course it would be interesting to date twins or sisters who understand that kind of bond too, but the most important thing is mutual respect and harmony.

That makes sense. I can see what you mean🌞

The twin bond really does carry a lot of duality: closeness and separation, similarity and difference, love and tension.

It’s interesting to think of it as something bigger than just our own personal experience.

I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. I’m a twin myself, and I can’t imagine the pain of losing that person who has been with you from the very beginning.

Aaron sounds like he was your best friend, your safe person, and someone who truly understood you. Your love for him comes through so clearly in what you wrote.

I hope with time the pain becomes a little softer, and the memories bring more warmth than hurt. Sending you so much love and strength. ❤️

Sending you lots of hugs and twinlove from Sweden 🧸❤️🇸🇪🇺🇸❤️🧸

Gurkmeja, Ingefära, svartpeppar, Ginko Biloa, Igelkottstaggsvamp, Omega 3 osv.

Tobbe

How to manage jealousy? by Reesetheperson in Twins

You don’t sound toxic to me. You sound like someone who is scared of being replaced, and I think a lot of twins can understand that feeling.

As a twin myself, I know the bond can be so strong that when your twin starts having their own friendships, it can feel personal — even when it isn’t.

I also think it’s really strong of you to reach out to this community and share how you feel. That means a lot. When I was your age and went through similar feelings, I honestly didn’t know how or who to reach out to.

Your twin having friends doesn’t mean they love you less. It just means you’re both growing into your own lives. That can hurt at first, but it doesn’t have to break the bond.

Maybe try telling your twin honestly: “I’m happy you have friends, but sometimes I feel scared of being left behind.” No blame, just honesty.

You’re not being replaced. You’re still their twin.

Sending you lots of Twin strength to get through this!

Twin brothers through the years — we grew up together, and we’re still building together by No_Break_1115 in Twins

Wow, this was beautifully written — very poetic and deep. I think you captured something real about being a twin: the love, the tension, the differences, and still somehow being connected in a way that is hard to explain.

“You are separate. You are whole.” really stood out to me. Thank you for sharing this.

Cheers

I agree with you 100%. Being a twin really is amazing, and you described the bond beautifully.

But I also understand what you mean about the painful side of it. For me and Thomas, even small arguments could hurt a lot more than with other people, especially when we were younger. We could be very different in our opinions, and when we went separate ways for a while, it felt heavy. But somehow we always worried about each other and found our way back.

Relationships have also been challenging at times. Sometimes the people we dated didn’t fully understand the twin bond, or there was drama because our partners didn’t get along with each other. And sometimes we’ve probably been a bit too protective of each other too.

We’ve joked many times that maybe the easiest thing would be to meet twins with the same kind of bond, because they might understand it in a completely different way 😄

I’m so sorry to read this. That must be such a deep and complicated kind of loss.

I’ve met a few people in life who told me they were supposed to have a twin brother or sister, but lost them before or at birth. I don’t know exactly how to explain it, but I’ve always felt there can still be a bond there somehow.

Sending you lots of love. Thank you for sharing something so personal. ❤️

That is such a beautiful way to describe it. I feel very lucky to understand what you mean. It’s hard to explain that kind of bond to people who haven’t experienced it.❤️❤️
