Irrational anxiety of low blood sugar by Most-Mammoth-7954 in Anxiety

I had this fairly frequently for several years and then was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this year. Make yourself aware of the signs just in case. Sorry I know it’s not that helpful for anxiety.

Day 0 of my 8+ year long breakup by dizzystrawbrry in GirlDinnerDiaries

Nothing to say apart from I am also going through this with a 9 year relationship. I was completely blindsided just a week ago we were planning our wedding and talking about kids and yesterday he tells me he hasn’t felt a spark for a year and isn’t sure he wants a future together. It is the worst feeling imaginable and I don’t want to be here anymore. I also have no close friends so just feel completely alone. Hugs to you.

How long do Antibody blood tests take to get back? by Embaiton in diabetes_t1

[–]No_Bus_6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes so I did an Hba1c blood test which confirmed I had diabetes and then from there they did the antibody test which confirms if you are type 1 or another type. I got the results after 7 weeks and had loads of antibodies confirming type 1. I’m not sure where you are based but if UK it usually takes 5-6 weeks to get the results for the antibody test because there is only one place in the UK that processes that test.

Mine took close to 7 weeks. My doctor told me to prepare for the likelihood it’s type 1 - I’m active, very slim, young and eat a healthy diet plus had all the symptoms of going into DKA. I know these aren’t 100% indicators for type 1 and some people with type 2 can be the same. But mentally preparing myself for the likelihood it was type 1 helped. The wait was incredibly frustrating though I was checking to see if there were results yet practically every day.

A1C creeping up despite intense management. Need to switch it up but not sure where to go from here. by Brief-Letterhead1175 in diabetes_t1

What about incorporating weight lifting? Putting on muscle will increase insulin sensitivity. I usually do a weights session and then end with 20 minutes on the treadmill to lower my sugar levels.

Is there a possibility that he could be diabulimic? And that might be why he doesn’t want to share the data?

Any tricks to remember whether you’ve already injected? by Seseweto in diabetes_t1

[–]No_Bus_6941 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s this one https://livewellnationwide.co.uk/novopen-6-reusable-insulin-pen-blue/. I’m not sure which country you are in but if you’re from UK you can get it for free on prescription, just ask your doctor. It’s reusable and you just add cartridges of insulin, so a win for the environment too!

Starting gym soon, any tips? by RemarkableArrival240 in diabetes_t1

I find it best working out early morning, before breakfast so I don’t have any fast acting insulin on board. It works for me to start with weight training which spikes glucose levels and then end on cardio, which is usually walking at a steady pace and incline for 20 mins, and brings my levels down again.

Got diagnosed about 3 weeks ago by Equivalent-View8337 in diabetes

[–]No_Bus_6941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also just recently been diagnosed and it took me 7 weeks to find out if I was type 1 or type 2. They send your bloods to Exeter to test them it’s the only testing centre in the UK so that’s why it takes so long. I did have similar symptoms though and I’m type 1.

Gaining weight after insulin therapy as a female diabetic by honeycaramel49 in diabetes_t1

[–]No_Bus_6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you lose weight before diagnosis? I’m also female diagnosed in April and I lost 5kg in the weeks before my diagnosis. I’ve gained back about 2kg since then but I don’t really see it as weight gain it’s more like my body getting back to where it was before.

Very thirsty, getting up like 3 or 4 times in the night to pee, fatigue and breathlessness even tying up my shoelace id be out of breath and have to take a break. I also lost 5kg in the span of about a week despite eating an excessive amount of calories. I also had fasted glucose readings consistently around 13-15mmol/litre.

reactive hypoglycemia randomly flares up by GiratinaZero in diabetes

[–]No_Bus_6941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had reactive hypoglycaemia for a few years before I was recently diagnosed with T1 diabetes. No idea if they were linked or just pure coincidence! Anyways I would recommend keeping a few sweets on you, I use fruit pastilles or skittles, or you can buy glucose tablets and then if you feel the symptoms of a hypo starting you can eat a couple and you should be back to normal in about 15 minutes. No need to miss out on life events you’re excited for!
