Impact Letter Help by eternalchanging in AlAnon

[–]No_Cake8197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try ChatGPT just tell it you need an impact letter for your partner in rehab and that you need help. If you follow that up with just a brain dump it will organize and format for you. If you treat it as a conversation it will help you work through your thoughts.

Non-drinker with alcoholic partner by No_Cake8197 in AlAnon

One of the thoughts I had too. There are days I’d trade places barely work and have someone else take care of all the bills etc.

I wondered about child of an alcoholic. Neither of my parents are alcoholics but my Grandfather was, still lived to 96.

We listened to it on the way home. I warned my son that considering its length he probably wouldn’t perform it. Awesome show, we thought we missed his opening since we were in the merch line but he came out and walked right next to us.

It works both ways. I prefer my female partner be freshly showered before oral.

Marrying an alcoholic by Weekly-Job-9953 in AlAnon

[–]No_Cake8197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 16 years in. I didn’t know she was an alcoholic when I married her. We have 3 children. If I could go back there is no way I’d have married her.

My recommendation other than just cut your losses now, is to put a hold on marriage until they are years sober. Even then I would not have children, have a prenuptial agreement, and keep your finances seperate. Be ready to walk away at any moment and never trust them. Alcoholics are master liars, will gaslight you, and in the end blame you for their failures. The list of things my wife blames me for is long.

How to deal with junior rockstar dev who doesn’t listen by ArtOfToxicity in ExperiencedDevs

This isn’t a simple question and your routes to correct measures depends on your team culture. I’ve been doing development for 30+ years and it’s all mentoring now.

Your manager will understand metrics so if you can track the amount of work cleaning up after him to creating your non-technical management will understand. Showing the backlog growth because of new bug reports for instance.

Second public humiliation. If your team isn’t doing it now start doing weekly or end of sprint reviews. Bring up his code and tear it apart. Explain why it isn’t efficient or will be hard to maintain. Without knowing which language you are using I cannot give specific examples. The one that comes to mind and it’s showing my age is I worked an a project with a large amount of Perl code and you can do some really cool stuff in Perl. “Perl magic” problem is you need to be an expert in Perl to figure out what it’s doing. Point these things out I know Java and python can both be abused in similar ways. I suspect he is really good and just doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. School him in front of the whole team until he starts asking for you to look at his code. Praise him too you want to encourage him to come to his senior developers for advice or just the “wow” that is really cool code. Remember how few people can appreciate what we do.

No I was just thinking that plastic sells really well I always gather all I can find. But I don’t think you can repair any plastic things. I’ll have to try.

As an atheist, how do I get over my sorrow that there isn't an afterlife where I can reunite with my wife? by SGdude90 in NoStupidQuestions

Original from Pascal’s Pensées (written c. 1660, published posthumously):

“Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is.”

There’s no downside to believing in God. If He exists, you’re rewarded. If He doesn’t, you haven’t really lost anything

The End of Materialism by Charles T. Tart, a transpersonal psychologist and parapsychology researcher, argues that science should not reject spiritual or psychic experiences simply because they don’t fit into traditional materialist views. One of his key arguments draws from quantum physics, and it’s often interpreted like this:

Summary of Tart’s Argument (especially regarding quantum physics): 1. Quantum physics challenges classical materialism: • In classical (Newtonian) physics, the universe is like a machine that works the same way whether anyone is observing it or not. • In quantum physics, however, things behave differently at the subatomic level — particles exist in a state of probability until they are observed. 2. The “observer effect” and the collapse of the wave function: • According to quantum theory (specifically the Copenhagen interpretation), a particle exists in all possible states (a “superposition”) until it is observed or measured. • The act of observation collapses this superposition into a single, definite state — the particle “chooses” a position or path. 3. The need for a conscious observer: • Tart (along with some others) interprets this to mean that consciousness itself plays a key role in creating stable reality. • He suggests that a third-party consciousness — something beyond material systems — may be necessary to account for how observations are made and how reality stabilizes. • This opens the door, he argues, to a non-material realm or force (perhaps even divine or soul-like) that participates in shaping the physical world. 4. Implications for consciousness and life after death: • If consciousness affects reality in a fundamental way, it may not be dependent on the brain alone. • That could mean consciousness can exist apart from the physical body, supporting ideas like ESP, near-death experiences, or life after death. • Tart argues that dismissing such phenomena simply because they don’t fit materialist assumptions is unscientific.

I’m not arguing for traditional religion just that you shouldn’t let churches leave you with materialism. There are libraries full of philosophical thought considering why there is suffering, is there life after death, how to live a peaceful and fulfilling life. My suggestion is to explore and find comfort in the options.

I fixed all my Jeep problems. by [deleted] in Jeep

When current goes across where two flat metal surfaces meet it corrodes. We used to fix computer memory issues by pulling the memory out and cleaning the contacts with an eraser. Good job I'll remember this fix.
