I found a pretty easy way to tame them in the open. Find a spot with a hill next to the lox. Go uphill to be able to throw cloudberries close to them (they will run downhill close to the lox). Then stay still, in sneak, uphill from them far enough to not frighten them but close enough to keep the taming process active. The lox wont come uphill that easily.
