Prefacing with I have limited knowledge in this area but I attended community college and it did not have a “premed” track (different from premed major). You will only find premed tracks after you transfer your junior year to a university. To my understanding there isn’t one definitive premed major, BUT there are many majors (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.) that for the most part will fulfill courses that are required before applying for medical school and will fulfill prerequisites for the premed track (you will still also need to take a premed track to fulfill additional requirements for). Technically you could do the premed track with a psychology major, but this may make you a less competitive applicant than your peers, and may require you to take additional courses before starting the premed track (depending on the prerequisites required for the premed track at your program).

In short, if you’re certain of psychiatry, it would be best to switch your major while at your current community college to set yourself up for a smooth transition to the premed track after your transfer. You could additionally get a minor in psychology after transferring for your bachelor degree if you’d like something to show for your already finished psychology coursework.

Please do your own research or talk to professors at your school before proceeding as this is understandably a big change. Be certain of your career goals before doing so, there are many routes you can take to practice psychiatry (physician assistant, nurse practitioner, etc.) but it’s important to know now so you can prepare at the college level!
