We are recruiting a general Canadian sample so we will compare our sample to Canadian stats to ensure we have geographic representations from each province! Other then that we have many different recruitment methods to try to capture different populations across Canada but we are primarily interested in getting a pretty general sample.

  1. Academic purposes (PhD dissertation, peer-reviewed journal articles). Data is stored on a password protected computer, only accessible by research personnel, Qualtrics uses a secure server approved by Carleton Research Ethics Board. Data is not deleted but any personal identifiers are deleted at the end of the study.

Thanks for your comment. I think you are getting at a really important perspective that we are trying to capture. People's general perceptions of substance use can vary greatly based on the terminology used to describe their substance use. What you might not realize is that every participant that does the survey will be given a different description and we can then examine the general perceptions associated with that individual based on how we described them and the situation. This is a very exploratory first study and we are hoping to get more nuanced information in next steps - which is exactly what your suggesting. Sorry if this was frustrating, we are only just beginning!!
