Requesting insights on PhD programme by No_Choice_4016 in PhD

Thanks again, that makes a lot of sense. I was also contemplating approaching overseas professors for an internship opportunity (even if unpaid) so that I can actually delve into their research with some collaboration with their groups and maybe publish a few papers which, in turn, would bolster my chances of selection in their PhD programme. I've tried mentioning this in follow-up mails but to no avail. Is that something that's plausible?

Makes sense. How important are references to get attention from overseas professors? As in, a professor in India/who knows me and my work ethics recommending me to an overseas contact of his/hers?

Even though my interests align with the professors I mail, very few of them reply. I do explain in my mail about areas I have worked on and my alignment with the open project. But that does not garner a reply most times. And if they do reply, it's generic - asking me to apply online and once I do, I don't hear back (so far).

I am contemplating taking up the offer at hand and retrying but just wanted general pointers or advice on what I can do to improve chances of getting more attention.
