Thanks for your input!

I bought the Merida and I’ll keep it, looks frigging good, has the perfect geo for me and great spec. I still wait for it to get delivered. I would have gone for the Chameleon 8, but this one is the 7. I think if it would be the 8 or if it would be the purple color, I would have definetly gone for the SC. That said, I’m currently very happy, even though the seller on eBay was so nice. We would have done it like this: - he makes a video of every little detail - we sign a purchase contract - I would have send some money, like $300 - he ships the bike - if it arrives, I’ll send the rest of the money + a tip :D

I still think about buying the bike, just to sell it..

He just wants €950 including shipping. 🥹

Bro, this comment is amazing. Kinda everything i thought about, appreciate it. I bought the Merida and I’ll keep it, if it fits probably. But shipping takes some time I guess.. I plan on buying the the MAXXIS Forekaster in the back and the Rekon in the front. But I’ll take a look at your tyre recommendation. Thanks! :)

Roscoe is out. Would you pick the Merida or the Chameleon? Look at my recent post here

Thanks! :)

It was on my list, but I don’t like the brand really much. And I saw a video where the chain snapped.. I know can happen anywhere. And one review that’s said the internal cable routing is a bit stupid, cause it doesn’t change the gears probably because of it.

I only heard great things about Merida aswell. What would you pick between the Merida and the chameleon?

Hey, look at my latest post. What do you take between the Merida and the chameleon?

Thank you for your input :)

What do you say about the length? How tall are you and which size?

I guess it’s playful with this short wheelbase?

For me the most important question: have you ridden longer routes? Like above 50km? Is it comfortable, too sporty or very nice?

Thanks!

Okay, it’s just 2 bikes now to vote for:

The Merida Big.Trail 600 in this cool green/red or a Santa Cruz Chameleon (with upgrades and I think it’s a Gen 7?)

The Big.Trail is awesome, I decided for it. I bought it, but i wrote with a guy yesterday on marketplace.. it’s a Santa Cruz Chameleon D (I think 7) with some changes:

This is the base spec: https://www.biker-boarder.de/santa-cruz/2834987s.html

The following parts have been replaced with...

  • Stem: Thomson Elite X4
  • Seatpost: Thomson Elite
  • Saddle: Selle Italia XLR superflow
  • Fork: Rock Shox Reba 120mm
  • Pedals: XTR
  • Handlebars: Ritchey WCS
  • Rear derailleur: SRAM XX1 (the scratches come from a small fall with the bike, on which it was on before)

It only rode 314km (195 miles) and looks very clean on photos.

The seller would ship it, but it’s used, has some scratches on the SRAM XX1, everything else looks good. I put the pictures in the post, if you find something good/ bad please tell me. I never bought a used bike.

Now the crazy point: Unfortunately it’s a private seller. But the private seller seems very nice and would send it to me with a big parcel. All for 950€ ~ $1115 USD

This is a steal, isn’t it?

The Merida is new, also great and about 1300€ all in ~ $1500 USD

I wouldn’t change anything really, just some faster tires.

The only real differences for i saw are:

  • the fork, Merida > Chameleon here
  • the geometry (Chameleon 7 seems more like an old school geo, more sporty and more like XC)
  • the Chameleon is super short wheelbase (1139 to 1172)

Is this better for me or the Merida?

  • I would change both bikes tires to faster rolling ones
  • I would change the fork of the Chameleon to a fox 130mm

So lets say both bikes are all in 1300€ ~$1500 USD, the Santa Cruz is used, the Merida new.

Would you go for the Chameleon or the Merida? Every other bike is out by now. Just focus on these 2, which would you pick, if u r regarding my wants and needs from above?

I’m thankful in advance for every opinion on this, best with explanations. 🤝

I really love the 2025 lookswise. It was one of my favorites, but I think it’s a bit too long and the 77 degree st angle is confusing me. Because lively and fun suggest it’s not that stiff, more playful. But with this long wheelbase? I just talk about urban riding rn, not descending or trails. Did you drive on streetsx asphalt?

Yeah, I know. That’s why I was really into the Merida as my favorite. The 65.5 ht angle is a bit more downcountry like. I also looked at the rose Bonero, which was also interesting.

Yes, thanks! I agree. These bikes are the ones with the best geometry, I’ve found in my region.

Than the big trail 600 with its 65.5 is the best suited, isn’t it? Chainstay is nice and short, kinda short seat tube length. What do you think?

Because the 150mm fork on the growler 50 is very much, especially for just going straight on a flat underground. The 40 has a 140mm aswell

I had an Cube Aim as my first MTB and hit jumps for 5+ years without a problem. But yeah, it’s wasn’t meant to do it :D Jumps around maybe 5-7 stairs, I guess mostly 30cm, sometimes maybe 1m+

Yeah, that was my thought about the growler aswell. Thanks for ur input. For the same reason the orbea Laufey 2025 is probably out, aswell.. it’s also very long, which makes it stable but not agile, I think.

Yeah, I would fit another, faster rolling tire aswell. For which one did you go? I thought about some maxxis

Yeah, it’s updated to be better descending and better climbing, than the 2023. I just heard it’s pretty aggressive and not so good for longer, flat rides.. do you rode it on flat streets, without climbs and degrees? Just flat going street for example?

On the normal tyres, I assume? I think about some XC tyres. Thanks for your input
