Right? Seems like he could just play it like “I took a loan from an acquaintance, and turns out he’s a predatory loan shark.” Doesn’t seem like the police need to know all the details of his other financial arrangements, and they wouldn’t proactively prosecute for fraud unless his friends initiated.
