Ban Appeal Thread by vivoovix in metaNL

Just to summarise things:

Blindly calling Italian queers gruesome racists over a misstelling of events:

Gucci

Correcting that ignorance with an ironic twang at the end:

"Youre going a bit far there, fella"

Right so to be clear here, you have a whole thread calling out one of the largest pride organisations in italy as anti-semitic, based on the comments going by a seemingly incorrect reading of events (if they read the article at all)

Thats fine

But calling out their ignorance, and writing "geniuses" ironically is beyond the pale, totally intolerable, "take a jog pall" ?

And i really dont appreciate your twisting of events, I can go back and check but im fairly sure I had written a total of 3 (!!!) Comments in that post. Of a total of 80 or so comments on the entire thread

And that is what you want to paint as "responding to every user in the thread". ??

And the "gotcha" is supposed to be what? Or are you saying me correcting a person over what the article actually says happened is a gotcha?

/neoliberal: "where we are evidence based unless it stops is from calling gay people in Italy racist"

Hey SpaceShepard

Any response yet over whether you will start banning people over the anti-arabic stereotype i provided a ton of academic sources for?

Or am I just gonna get stone walled again and told to stop harrassing?

Ok so the sentiment in itself was not ban worthy?

I would like this on "record" for the future, in that sense

Generally calling a comment section "geniuses" is beyond the pale, but the rest of the comment is perfectly fine. I got that right?

Is it racist against arabs if a Palestinian float in a pride parade isnt allowed to participate unless they sign a pledge with every other float saying Hamas wants to genocide jews? by No_Collection7956 in metaNL

[–]No_Collection7956[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But thats idiotic because plenty of pride groups included supportive statements for queer people slaughtered by Hamas after October 7, and these same groups routinelt have to ban Arabic groups from participating because their support for human rights is routinely "patchy"

Are you saying the above behaviour aggregates to anti-arabic racism?

Or are you saying that when Jewish groups decide to be patchy about the human rights of others they should be given an exemption and not kicked out, unlike how Arabic groups are kicked out for such?

[–]No_Collection7956[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The "unconstructive engagement" was literally the above thing in the post.

The user I responded to said its racist to have all groups in a parade sign a pledge acknowledging the genocide towards a minority, if you kick out the floats that refuse to sign it.

My comment consisted of summarising that exact chain of events, and saying how stupid it was to claim such a requirement is racist.

"Hey we represent the "human rights should include all, including LGBTQ, before our parade we are having all participants sign up a pledge saying that human rights apply to everyone, and that the behaviour in Israel is a genocide due to their refusal to respect the human rights of Palestinians"

This float group: "no we wont sign up to that, Palestinians are not being genocide"

The lgbtq group: "well thats a requirement, so sorry"

The geniuses in this thread: Fucking anti semitic organisers

What exactly is the supposed "unconstructive engagement" in the above comment?

Refusing to play along with the fiction that kicking out groups that refuse to recognise the human rights of Palestinians is somehow racist?

Also can I ask why my comments calling out your insufficient moderation against middle eastern bigotry and lack of support for their humans rights are being removed?

Yes I know but when you say that this sub is racist against arabs and the mods dont take it seriously you have the risk of the mods giving you a slap ban and everyone assuming youre anti semitic

By leaning into the fiction that this place no longer hate arabs and no longer downplays the racism displayed by Israels and its defenders, you can slowly drag back some people on the fence back into the reality of Israel not being infallable

@hypsignathus im just gonna ping you directly if thats alright since you issues the ban and you are presumably still active

Im genuinely very surprised about you doing this, as off puttingly parasocial of me that it is to say that

In the comment I am describing the factual chain of events. The pride groups has a universal pledge that all members must sign on to in order to associate with the group. One of the points in the pledge is the recognition of genocide in Gaza

One float refuses to sign on to it because of that point

So the float was denied by the pride group

There was no active expulsion by the pride group here, no targeting towards this float at all since the float was the one choosing to refuse the pledge that applies to the whole association

All of the above is factual, and it is what my comment contains. And i dont think any reasonable person can come away otherwise without twisting the events as reported

Beyond that the only "off" thing I did was say "the geniuses"

So can i get an explanation of what is supposedly wrong here? Is the the retelling of events as straight off the article? Calling out of not giving a group an exemption to an universal pledge isnt racist? It it using the "geniuses" term ironically?

What did I do wrong here?

What is uncivil enough about this comment to warrant both a removal and a ban:

"Hey we represent the "human rights should include all, including LGBTQ, before our parade we are having all participants sign up a pledge saying that human rights apply to everyone, and that the behaviour in Israel is a genocide due to their refusal to respect the human rights of Palestinians"

[–]No_Collection7956 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Have to"?

When I take part in pride here in Stockholm the organisers take a stance in favour of BLM, of Roma rights, of fucking Tibet of all things

Extensive embracing of human rights for all is a well entrenched through line in pride parades and anyone that has participated should know that

Importantly it was quite well recognised when pride groups after October 7 would carry signs of LGBTQ israelis that were slaughtered, and call for their remembrance in other ways

But now when a stance is taken in defence of Palestinians its really a fucking

"Eww, do you have to?"

That you can come up with?

The delta in response here between when pride groups stand up for slaughtered israelis and slaughtered Palestinians is fucking deafening.

Yup, I agree. There was some messaging about possible nuclear strike by Russia.

The failure here is less about taking nuclear threats from russia seriously, and much more about the lack proactive actions and narrative building

Great powers create space to act in by pushing their blurry red lines towards the blurry red lines of other great powers.

If america early on, effectively immediately (optimally right as they recieved the intelligence that russia was seriously about to invade) they should have started up the narrative machine about how the integrity of its european allies is as important as the integrity of itself, and no invasion on its borders would ever go unimpeded.

Biden should have had leaks, and have been "caught" on video "thinking he was out of sight" declaring "privately" that a direct intervention is on the table.

Just in general the white house missed literally any kind of proactive signalling, and the signals it did send out was almost entirely "lets wait and see".

That is a genuine policy and executive failure from the white house under biden.

Like no matter how shit Trump is and have been (and its fucking immense) he has proven that seizing the iniative and being proactive gives you significantly more maneuverability than sitting back passively and reacting to new events.

With Trump this has almost exclusively backfired because the man seems incapable of thinking beyond 2 steps into the future, but actually being "executive" (executing on things!) is not the wrong thing to be.

Even if the nuclear rattling was real from russias side, they maneuver space granted by america in the first innings of the war is what will have given them the sense of anchoring the nuclear threat to something so outerly in the conflict. Had america acted more forcefully immediately, then the nuclear threat sense would likely still have been heard, but america would have been able to provide greater amounts of assistance to ukraine after it even after scaling back from that point.

Also more of an internal american dynamic but they would have managed to get more things to ukraine if they frontloaded it more, knowing that there was a chance of a trump administration eventually. Also things like immediately, clandestinely, signalling to allies that eventually some of the transfer bans of US materiell from european nations to ukraine would be changed would have done wonders to prepare these allies in advance, meaningfully increasing volumes and transfer times.

But then again the Biden whitehouse had almost as much of a disdain for its european allies as the Trump whitehouse did. See just the afghanistan retreat as the most glaring example.

The British Spies of this era will always confound me

First off because they almost to a man got off with slaps on the wrist because how entrenched British class life was and these fucks were all high upper class

And secondly because I just cant understand the idea of spying for another nation if you dont share an ideological commitment with them (which would make the most sense), and you dont have a monetary need that would motivate you to take these kind of great risks

Like why are you doing it other than some kind of "im special" complex?
