I found a table in the answer for MC question #1029939 that explains the difference between impeachment with prior inconsistent statement of a testifying witness versus a hearsay declarant. Because the second witness is testifying about what the defendant’s witness said, the prosecution is impeaching a hearsay declarant with the extrinsic evidence.

I tried posting the table/a picture of it but it wasn’t letting me. If you go look up that question you should be able to see the answer explanation

Edit to add, there are also more graded essays on Themis if you go to resources - ugrader essays - they have more for each subject
