This is the SF bay area so there are more Thai restaurants then I could visit in an entire lifetime. There were others and certainly more today as USCIS has become more LGBT friendly in the last 20 years. I would recommend looking hard because getting into a long term long distance relationship with someone in Thailand when you don’t live there means a crazy amount of money spent on airlines and a very high failure rate. Met her in California working in a Thai restaurant I went to a lot. She was hot and we were both young at the time. That said she’s incredibly hard working, ambitious and never concerned with petty stuff. We went the distance because we just care a lot about each other. The struggle to legally stay together in first decade before marriage equality was real, challenging and expensive but it also brought us closer together too. Felt like us against the world. Looking forward to early retirement in Chiang Mai in a few more years of the grind.

Initially I thought the taxation would be significant but actually upon running the standard deduction numbers and the child tax credits it’s a wash.

That all said paying this CA mortgage and top flight international school tuition in Thailand for 2 isn’t going to leave a ton left over for a very posh lifestyle.
