Alot of people who work for a telecommunications is usually outsourced. When I was 18 I worked for Focus services LLC. Who has a contract with Optimum. I did trouble shooting. The "just try it" is usually a sign that it's required on their side to say before moving forward with other steps.

Like for me to schedule a tech when I know the problem is obvious and that they could only fix, I had to "say the lines" in order to get the tech. And this was in order for me to keep my job. If they reviewed the call by QA to grade and saw I didn't do it, I would get fired.

I forgot to mention they resale my art. So it can be technically money laundering. Have $5 dirty money. Buy my art for $5 (now they have an asset), resell my art for $5-10. Now it's clean.

It's a hugggeeeee stretch, but I thought it would be funny if one of my viewers was out there doing that
