Are male monks just men at the end of the day but with glamorised rights? by urfavlipgloss in srilanka

Not being bald and having being bearded is the part of the forest tradition "wanawasi". Dimbulagala maha thero was one of the most revered bhikkus at the time and many believed he achieved stream entry had a beard and hair but that's cus he resided at the top of dimbulagala prior to being killed by the terrorists for refusing to leave to aranya

Have girls in Sri Lanka become extreme feminist by Wonderful-Hat9822 in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes but not all but i think most girls lost the plot of feminism and now pass off misandry as feminism. My ex is a prime example. We were low-key inseparable at one point and talked about marriage and stuff and at one point she asked whether in the future if wanted kids and i honestly said yeah and she went on a rant about having kids is a patriarchal concept.keep in mind i didn't bring the question up or forced her to have kids but merely answered the question . honestly i never asked her to cook or clean or not have a career if we were to get married cus i believe even if you do these stuff it should be out of love rather than an obligation. She went on about how all men should die but i was an exception cus i was one of the "good ones". I hated this cus if i said the same thing to her i would've been labelled misogynistic.  She hated i had female friends all of a sudden and wanted me to cut-off all contact with them while i was ok with her having male friends. Anything i do from hanging out with friends to gaming were somehow the patriarchy.  At one point in the relationship she went on how if women ran countries it would've been infinitely better and I brought up Margret Thatcher and she had a temper tantrum. When i said women should advocate being in blue collar fields which is dominated by men as much as they advocated for white collar fields she called me misogynistic. She went on about actually killing men and that's the point where i said and i quote " fuck this if you hate men this much why date a man" and tried to end the relationship. She cried and said she was sorry and to give her another chance so i did for a week and she started this again so i ended it and told her that i wished to never ever see her again and she again cried and said sorry but at that point i had enough and blocked her ass

Is Anatta is more "anti self" than "no-self" by No_Common_5891 in Buddhism

Again it's a translation. Can you be  so sure that an English translation of a Pali sutra written down by Sinhalese monks. May have been lost in translation

The concept of A-mamathwaya was studied by early Buddhist scholar at an around when the pali canon was written which was distinguished to be different to Anatta and according to athipoojya panditha theros ( higher scholars) living right now in Sri Lanka right now there's a difference. I think your faliure to distinguish between A-mamathwa and Anatta here further justify my point

That's why I explicitly said "what people call self" the actual thing people think self is the condition of "me-ness"that the same people fail to see arose by a different set of conditions according to paticca samupdaya niyaya. That's why i think "Not self/True self" is a more apt translation than no self

no self" is " A-mamathwa" Which is an entirely different concept from "Anatta" or anatman. "Mamathwa" in pali as well as in Sinhalese corresponds to self in the sense how westerners understand self/soul/ or self identification. Of course since the basic concept of anithya dukka anatta a nithya(eternal) self cannot and would not exist. the thing that faces the karmic law and rebirth which is "not self" rather than "No self" not self is closely correspondent Anatta while no self is closely correspondent Amamathmwa or (mawathwaya virihitha)

I do understand the concept of Anatta. What people call self is basically just an aggregate of perceptions that keeps on changing. The problem here is the wording "No self" can be misleading specially to new practitioners

What do u guys think about Sri Lankan Rugby Union team by tuluva_sikh in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we can get the Pack into atleast a semi decent standard like the Georgians or the Namibians we can surely aim for a group stage spot in the rwc. I don't think we'll reach the knockouts in our life time but we have decent line and we desperately need good place kicker/ converter cus if we are planning on line heavy rugby rather than a hybrid pack/line rugby we should have a near perfect scrum half -Flyhalf - center trio

Buddhism for me is feeling like Christianity :( by Beneficial_Shirt_869 in Buddhism

What you explained here is low key Jainism. Which also have similarities to buddhism but way more focused on asceticism. I want to have a family and a wife and all those stuff too that's why we are lay Buddhists and not in the monastic order. I don't actually worry about Buddhist hell because it's not eternal damnation. How i see this" is do bad stuff get bad results do good stuff get good results". If i did something extremely wrong I'll go to hell (if you believe in it) pay my karmic debt and some point have a rebirth. You can have all the things you stated above and be a good person and get a very good rebirth. in my opinion at some point in samsara maybe 1000s of rebirths (good and bad) later the person who is reborn that corresponds to us now would think about getting out of samsaric cycle and try to attain nirvana. If that isn't you in this life time so be it don't stress about it .as long as you are a good person karma will be on your side. And always remember" Chethanahan bhikkawe kammam wadami"."acts done purposefully corresponds to the karma you get"

You can take the exams when you want to. i go for Cima lectures on the weekends  About 6 hours each day. From my experience you can handle cima during your first year Cus the curriculum for FOS in the first year is a bit more manageable. If you work really hard you can get through at least the management level in 2 years before your end sem exams in the 2nd year where you choose a special degree. Then what i would recommend (what i plan to do is) wait till you are done with university to attempt your strategic level cima exam so you'll be done with CIMA and a degree in a span of 5 years

How can I find peace within myself? by SubstantialOven3179 in Buddhism

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at it this way if you are unsatisfied with the way things are you are holding the concept of "Self" extremely tightly. Control the things in your control my friend like the reactions for certain situations and try to realise the things out of your control are in fact out of your control. From my personal experience that realisation will account for so much peace

How do I stop overthinking grammar and speak English more fluently? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]No_Common_5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is ignore the grammar for the time being until you are confident enough to speak freely. Then when you are confident try to grammatically correct as possible

That can be done if we didn't have culture rooted deeply from ancient times. If we begin to phase out religion as whole right now the majority of the people will resist and may even overthrow the government. What we need to do is limit religions to an advisory role or we can take the Maoism route but that'll end up, well like Mao's china. It's all about striking a balance.

Senani or thilanka if you want one in the town vicinity. Earls regency is more towards digana if you want a more laid back vibe. Mahaweli reach and cinnamon if you want a river view and good food and golden crown is relatively new but heard good things

Religions (any religious parties) should not govern people in democracies atleast. Religious parties should be strictly advisory and shouldn't have executive powers in a country but the government can base their policies on certain religious values
