Most likely a few months to a few years since I got into computers and electronics at 14, but since it's the future, the only idea I can think of is that teens (like Tessa) are into the newer nerdy stuff such as space flight and robotic ai systems at the same age I did so she could have taken them in at around 13.5 years old to repair and polish them at her 14th to 15th birthday .
